My son and I rented a cabin a couple times at Wilderness State Park. Easy to get to, basic accommodations that fully met our needs for peace and quiet along the Lake Michigan shore.

Wilderness is great! I’ve been to Mackinaw City so many times and have stayed in the hotels with all the other people...but for a short drive away to be right on the lake with hardly any people is amazing. The park is a bit weird...More

It's a little challenging to get to the coastal trail, but worth the effort. You drive west along the Wilderness Park Rd. until it turns into unpaved Waugoshance Point Rd., follow to the west end where there is a parking lot on the north side...More

Drove all through the park and stopped in many places along the beach, checked out some cabins, and they are in the wilderness! The campsites are as close to the water as you want them to be, and the trails go way back into the...More

We came after Sept 1 so dogs were allowed on the beach. Beautiful view of the mighty mac and 2 lighthouses. Also saw two freighters go by. Relaxing and had the beach almost to ourselves.

They do not allow dogs in the rustic cabins. The fine print in the reservation states as much. I know because I wanted to bring our dog : )
