I found this shuttle bus which is a great way to get up to Ba Be National Park (so much nicer than Sapa) especially for independent travellers. Previously you either had to take local buses which although cheap were very hit and miss and you never quite knew if you were going to end up where you wanted, or, you had to pay out for a private car, which is just not viable unless there are 3-4 of you.
This bus ( and being bright yellow, you can certainly see it coming) is a great compromise. Only for tourists, (and free for local students - a nice touch) it travels direct from the Old Quarter in Hanoi, straight up the much improved highway to the north, there is 15 minute comfort break and then on to the more quiet twisty roads to the mountains. We were lucky enough to have the lovely Mr Nam who handed out water and made sure we were all ok. The seats are comfy and reclining with seat belts. The driver was very safe. For $15 I think it was good value.
We got to Babe in time for lunch (a five hour trip) so were free to explore activities for the rest of the day.
I think this is another project by Mr Linh who has a Homestay in Ba Be.

Dear Evie,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. We are not running the shuttle service at this moment due to the low demand. However we offer instead a complete package with a 3-day tour to our beautiful Ba Be National Park and Ban Gioc Waterfall including transportation, accommodation, meals and guide through our tour company Mr Linh’s Adventures. We’d be happy to provide you with a great and authentic experience of the park next time!
Many thanks,
Mr Linh's Adventures Team

The bus is clean and smell nice. Had a good journey to Ba Be National park. One minus thing is that the music of the driver is not my taste.

Now you can travel from Hanoi to Ba Be National Park by bus via the new highway No3 on 5 hrs. Leave early morning and arrive before lunch 12.30 pm. Some travelers told me to reconsider.... but honestly speaking, this is a very save attraction. The buses are very comfortable with reclining seats and seat belts! I noticed the driver adhered to the speed limit of 100 mph (or less). There are 1 stop along the way where food and drinks are available, the toilettes however are still quite rudimentary.. Each bus has an English speaking attendant. I believe it is mandatory to make a reservation, you can get picked up at your Hotel in Hanoi.

The whole drive to Ba Be and back was amazing. Altough it is a mini bus, on the way from Hanoi to Ba Be it was only the two of us and another couple. On the way back it was just the two of us! And the mini bus still went! It was very comfortable. The driver was extremely nice and friendly. Eventhough he did not know English he was able to communicate with us just fine. A great help was Google Translate app which we also used in Ba Be a lot.
