Getting the opportunity to see the drawbridge in operation was really a cool experience. Just spending a few hours in Woods Hole it was a pleasant surprise to see it manned and in operation.

The day we were in Woods hole, the drawbridge was not manned, and thus could not see it in operation or tour the office area. It is a small bridge, which definitely needs to open for any kind of sailboat. Nice to see, but do not plan your trip around seeing this.

I have spent summers here since 1965 and have always enjoyed the drawbridge. I now live here. In the past, as a pedestrian or bike rider, you could help the bridge tender by opening/closing the gates. That seems to be frowned on more recently; this made up for by the bridge tender's love of dogs.
I was here in 2009 when the old bridge was removed and a new one put in. A pedestrian walkway was maintained through the construction.
The traffic light at the bridge is the only one in Woods Hole and the bridge opens on the hour and half hour if there are boats wanting to enter or exit Eel Pond.

This is a drawbridge. It lets boats of varying sizes to cross under Water Street and enter Eel Pond.
Ok...that's all. Ho hum.
There is a very nice breakfast place nearby.

This is not something you see every day. The draw bridge opens up to allow boats to enter Eel Pond in Woods Hole. Kind of unique. Great opportunity for kids to learn something different. Woods Hole is quite historic and a great place to visit.
Oh yeah. Go to Pie in the Sky Cafe while "in the Hole". YUM!

In our 36 foot sailboat, we entered and exited Eel Pond twice via this drawbridge, and waited on the road several more times as other boats passed. More of a thrill from the water, the bridge sits only 3 feet from the water (virtually every boat needs the bridge opened) and is a surprisingly narrow entrance. Creative graffiti is more easily seen from the water but you can see it if you're on the right side of the road.

A small draw bridge that allows access to Eel pond. When necessary a guard in the booth closes the road & sidewalks and raises the bridge. Fun if you've never seen anything like this close up before

Its a sight to behold as the boats pass to the inner harbor, especially the sailboats. The opening and closing does not take long but standing there watching is awesome. You can look right down on the boats as they pass by.

We thought the draw bridge was like something from the past. It opens every 30 minutes for boats to move in and out and then a car and people bridge.

Figuring out what those graffiti arts mean under the drawbridge makes you different from regular tourists. It has a strong nerdy influence from it's marine biology history. The evidence is the 4th of July Parade in this little downtown. Enjoy!
