As the centerpiece of Rockport Harbor, Motif Number 1 draws the eye from every angle. The best view is from T Wharf, where you can also admire the lobster boats, the Sandy Bay Yacht Club, and the recently-reconstructed breakwater. Actually a copy of the original building (destroyed in the Blizzard of 1978), there is another copy at Granite Pier north... More

Dazzling colors and shapes invite you to photograph or paint this historic boat house. It is located in the heart of Rockport, Mass.

If you enjoy a relaxing stroll while visiting many little shops filled with delightful creative items, then this is where you should go. This "artist colony" is so mesmorizing. Do stop at Helmut's for a delightful treat and coffee. A "do not miss" place to visit.

Really loved this quaint little village. Best picture we took othe day was of this old fishing shed. Had several people say it should be framed. Some quaint shops to visit close by as well.

I'm a huge movie nerd and the only reason I wanted to stop here was because the Alaskan parts of Proposal were filmed here. While, it was cool to see the filming location, the town had much more to offer. Motif Number 1 was beautiful and a great place to take some pictures!

I can see how this became an iconic symbol of the town - so photogenic, especially during the golden hour of sunlight.

Notif Number 1 is a small red old building, you can make some good pictures by photo or to paint it. That's all but if you visit Rockport you must see it.

“Motif Number 1” is a term often used by French artists to deride artistic clichés. Due to the fact that the little red fishing shack appeared so often in paintings, the name was given to the shack back in the 1930’s and has stuck ever since. Rockport is rightfully proud of its landmark and celebrate it each year with the... More

We were there in the late afternoon, with the boats all tied up and the sun hitting it, made for an amazing picture.

This iconic building is really just a location for a photo-op, or if you are an artist, a popular scene to paint. You can't think of Rockport without Motif Number 1 popping into mind, but I wouldn't exactly consider it "something to do".
