Finally got here again on a beautiful day and still felt alone most of the time. Writing this review is counter productive to keeping it empty but I just need to rave how peaceful this place is. It's almost like walking on water.

The Reservoir has recently had its main entrance on Route 202 blocked with concrete barriers and guardrails. The town of Holyoke states this is due to concerns for pedestrian safety. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out an alternative entrance. I finally discovered one near the Holyoke mall area on Lower Westfield Road. Take Lower Westfield Road (off of Homestead Avenue) and follow it up the hill. Bear right and you will see the Elks Lodge on your right. There is parking availability and the gate leading to the Reservoir allows pedestrians to come and go into the Reservoir.

Very easy, flat, gravel path that winds around the reservoir. Terrific water views and a lot of photo opportunities. Customize the length of your walk, from not much more than a mile, to maybe 6 miles, and not repeat anything. Fantastic sunsets, occasional geese. Not crowded. You can part at the Elk lodge parking area and enter at the gate. Bicycles and strollers are allowed. Plenty of room for everyone. No charge. No dogs allowed.

A number of small lakes connected by gravel road surrounded by lovely woods. Wish we could walk the dog there but they are not allowed which is understandable with all the ducks around.

Thank you Holyoke for allowing public access and maintaining this wonderful place. All kinds of birds, turtles, frogs... Always great to see people of all ages, singly and with friends and families. I don't want to praise it too much because one of the many things that makes it special is the lack of crowds. Oh wait, there are snakes! : )

Skip the mall and visit Ashley Reservoir! This is one of the nicest places in the area to walk or for me to bike ride. I go here quite often just to relax and unwind. Well worth the visit! The parking area could be bigger as it does get crowded at times.

Great place for walking and seeing families and young people out and about. Please follow the rules and leave your dogs at home.

This is a wonderful place for a leisurely walk, or a hike of 8 miles. The scenery around the reservoir is just breathtaking. The trail is flat and easy to walk. We were there on a brisk day in late October, so there were not many walkers on the trail. But I imagine it is well traveled during the warmer weather. Definitely worh a stop if you are in the area. The length of stay is dependent upon how far around you decide to walk.

But bring your bug spray, mosquito's are bad at times! A lot of different paths to take, which makes it a lot of fun. Always a lot of people there.

Is it stroller friendly the entire way? We don't like pushing the stroller over bumpy gravel

YES..Make sure your unit has large wheels.

No. It is one of the water sources for the City of Holyoke. No one can go in the water...boat, float, body, etc. Parking is a challenge. I believe there is a website with the rules.

Are the trails okay for road bikes or only mountain bikes?
Written 24 July 2017
Does anyone here know where you enter the trails, and where you can park?

Exit 15 on route 91 from the south. Take a left on lower Westfield road. Go straight through the light and up and down the hill. The entrance is straight ahead. Park on the right before the gate. There are a couple of other entrances. One behind the elks lodge and another on the other side.
