Make sure you get a beach parking permit beforehand or make sure you're white.

Town hall employees are not very helpful if you're not.

Gave me the runaround to get a parking permit and told to stand outside the town hall for 15 minutes before getting someone to ask for me. They did not even ask me when I was standing at the door, but asked the white lady behind me if she needed help.

I don't think they are used to seeing anyone that's not pale.

I was at Bank Street beach yesterday, and this is what I saw while trying to find a parking place:

1. Parking is limited to those with a local sticker, which is not readily available for visitors or tourists. There is no daily pass option or other way to legally park in the Bank Street parking lot. Nearest alternative parking is about a mile walk away.

2. Municipal authorities patrol the lot regularly, especially on weekends, doling out $50 parking tickets to help fill the local coffers and fleece unsuspecting tourists. When I was there, around 1pm on a Sunday afternoon, they were busy issuing tickets to every car without a local parking sticker. At least one couple was surprised to find a brightly colored parking ticket on their windshield- I saw many others.

3. The beach itself was crowded, fenced off on one side which is a privately owned beach.

Bottom line, avoid this beach if you're looking for a legal place to park close by, or want to avoid a $50 parking ticket.

We have many beaches in harwichport but bank street beach is one of my favorites along with pleasant rd. beach and red river beach. They have great parking, big beach areas and it is a flat walk from parking to beach (no stairs) .

Nice clean beach with soft sand . Also clean rest rooms. No shade so bring a beach umbrella but be forewarned it can be fairly windy.

Very nice beach with public parking and seasonal rest rooms. In season a parking sticker is required from the town of Harwich but off season no sticker is needed. The beach is clean and the sand is beautiful. Dunes and grass back up the beach before the parking lot. Bank Street beach is located close to Whychmere Harbor and it's a perfect spot for watching amazing boats coming and going from the harbor as well as walking on the long jetty beside the harbor or fishib from the jetty. It is also a great place to walk from Whychmere Harbor on the left facing the ocean to Allen's Harbor many beaches away to the right.

Cape Cod beaches captured my heart many years ago due to the lack of commercialism down it's shorelines. No high-rise hotels or condos, just dunes or charming Cape Cod homes, with the occasional tasteful resort dotting the coast. Bank Street is a favorite of ours simply due to the fact that we like to stay in Harwich Port. Perhaps one advantage that this beach has over other beaches is the mild water if water activities are a consideration. Beaches such as Marconi or Race Point have beautiful dunes and mightier Atlantic waves. Waves at Bank Street (Nantucket Sound) are much calmer, and tides do not affect the coastline as much as it does along the"northern" beaches of Cape Cod Bay. (Walk out to a beach along Cape Cod bay in the afternoon and you'll have to search for the water!) And while there is not a direct sunset view, the sun casts a beautiful glow on this beach as it sets, creating a spectacular sky. Bathroom facilities are available and Main Street is a short walk up Bank Street for great eating options. A lifeguard station is also included on this beach. There is parking, but check with the town about non-resident parking during the day. Non-resident parking is allowed in the late afternoon and evening.

Bank Street Beach can be accessed from town if the parking lot is filled or you don't want to pay the daily fee. It is a long narrow beach with private property on either side but the whole shoreline from pier to pier is accessible by any one to walk. The beach is kept raked and the sand is lovely. As you get closer to the Wychmere Harbor end, the town tends to pile up the shells and seaweed so you might want water shoes. Swimming is excellent anywhere along the shore. I recommend going after 4:30, it is free, quieter and wonderful as dusk descends.

Maybe I'm prejudiced because I have loved coming to Harwich Port and this beach since the 1970's, but this is all the beach I want. The Nauset ocean beach might be more exciting, and there are other beaches in Harwich and other towns that are meritorious, but there is something very special about this beach. Walking to town shops is easy, where there are great restaurants like Hot Stove. And if you are staying at one of the inns next door, you have all you need for a great vacation. (And Bank Street Beach was open during the recent shark scare that closed some beaches). So if you like non-commercial, friendly beaches for couples or families, this is it!

This is a lovely spacious beach with soft sand and warm water. We go to this beach every year; we have done so for decades. There is decent parking and bathrooms.
