The tough job of fishing shows in the fisherman's face. There are people here every day . People walk here, drive here, bike here, and come in busses. The cenotaph along the wall is sobering -- so many lost at sea in this line of work, including recent years.

Stop by the statue and be inspired. The names of all the fishermen lost at sea are posted. A somber reminder that generations of men worked for their families and for the economy bringing seafood to our tables. Stand here and look out at the ocean and try to imagine. I find it very moving.

I walk every day on the Boulevard (harborfront), where this monument is located. It does draw the tourists. Some take couples-selfies, draped around each other, oblivious to the printed rosters of those lost to the sea. The rosters surround those tourists standing silent, observing. The memorial is kind of like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DC in that it inspires... More

We walked around and visited this memorial as we took in the harbor walk. Gives one a sense of just how dangerous the sea can be. Very meaningful monument.

My mom and I wanted to visit this monument before we left the area. We had no idea there would be so many names of those who were lost to the sea. It was beautiful and haunting.

The area was under construction while we were there, but it was still beautiful to see. I recommend that everyone stops and looks at the stones around the monument.

This tribute is for all the men who spent their lives fishing for a living for their family and community. They faced destruction when we, on land, were annoyed by the wind; what may ruin our beach day threatened to ruin their boats, and wreck their livelihoods. I think it's amazing to think about. Most of the fisheries have left... More

Seeing all the Gloucester Fishermen's names who died at sea was very moving. Hundrds and hundreds of them. Seeing the Andrea Gail names almost had me in tears. (The Perfect Storm story.) Just a moving, beautiful place to sit and contemplate....

We found that the Fisherman's Memorial Monument was an amazing sight. What is even more amazing is to read all of the names of fisherman who have lost their lives throughout history. The monument is easy to get to and is along a beautiful walkway that overlooks the water. We were glad to have stoppped by.

A stopped briefly to see the Fishermen's Memorial Monument to pay tribute. When we buy seafood and fish at the market or in a restaurant, we don't think about the men and women who put their lives on the line to catch it. This makes you appreciate your meal even more.
