The Gloucester Fishermen's Memorial Monument is a moving tribute to all the fisherman who have lost their lives. The movie the Perfect Storm with George Cluny told one of these stories of lives lost at sea. While you are visiting the Gloucester fishing community, take a moment to see the names listed on this moving tribute.

I live in Gloucester, so I might be biased! The Fishermen's Memorial Monument is situated along "The Boulevard", which is a walkway along the harbor. The fishing industry has been struggling and it has had a great impact on many of the people of Gloucester ... so the memorial is important to those whose families earned a living through fishing.... Famous sculpture on the boulevard with other statues and memorials to fishermen lost at sea. Beautiful view from this area too!

The memorial monument is well presented. Nice statue of a fisherman which captures the imagination. Informative information explaining the history and more than 5,000 names listed of sailors who have lost their lives in tragic circumstances. Worth taking the time to visit.

Who comes to Gloucester and doesn't visit the famous Fisherman's statue on the Boulevard? Sure, I live here, but I want to make certain that all who come to town see this beautiful statue of a fisherman at the wheel gazing out to sea. (I first saw a picture of it in my history book in Connecticut) You are sobered... More

Seeing that statue and the names of all the lost is incredible. Who ever thinks about what was lost for us. This brings much to the heart.

I must be honest, I never heard of this memorial, or Gloucester, until I saw the Perfect Storm. Once I did, I knew I had to see it for myself, though it took me 16 years. I was not disappointed. It is hard to fathom the loss of life, especially when this type of work is foreign to so many... More

The tough job of fishing shows in the fisherman's face. There are people here every day . People walk here, drive here, bike here, and come in busses. The cenotaph along the wall is sobering -- so many lost at sea in this line of work, including recent years.

Stop by the statue and be inspired. The names of all the fishermen lost at sea are posted. A somber reminder that generations of men worked for their families and for the economy bringing seafood to our tables. Stand here and look out at the ocean and try to imagine. I find it very moving.

I walk every day on the Boulevard (harborfront), where this monument is located. It does draw the tourists. Some take couples-selfies, draped around each other, oblivious to the printed rosters of those lost to the sea. The rosters surround those tourists standing silent, observing. The memorial is kind of like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DC in that it inspires... More
