This should be in the Top Ten things to do in Gloucester. My wife and I visited yesterday and found the tour very informative. The guide was excellent. the high style Georgian architecture interesting as was the furnishings. However, hearing the history of Judith Sargent Murray is really what makes this visit worth wild. The tour is approximately and hour in duration and is more than than worth the admission price. We would highly recommended visiting the Sargent House Museum

If you like history, this is a great place to spend one hour. Admission in $10, and the knowledge of the tour guide was outstanding. Her stories made it come alive - especially the information on Judith Sargent Murray. Going to places like this really help my understanding and appreciation of an area.

As you stroll down the quaint West End of Gloucester's downtown Main Street, you will stumble upon this lovely old historic home. We live in Gloucester and had never taken a tour, yet I pass this house every day on my way to work. So, one day last summer, we were taking a "stay-cation" on our very own Cape Ann and were able to get in for a tour, which operate most days throughout the summer. We were greeted by two friendly ladies at the front desk and quickly got in for a tour with just us and another guest. It was more interesting than I thought and being a resident of this wonderful town, I learned many interesting tidbits on the city that I never knew. Also, the décor and architecture of the stately home is beautiful and lovingly restored. Lovers of history and antiques will have a hay day in here as we did. Enjoy the surroundings and learn something new at this unique property sitting high on a hill downtown.

Exceptionally beautiful Georgian house with outstanding carvings and exquisite staircase. Very interesting story of Judith Sargent Murray and women's rights. Very tragic life. Beautiful paintings and work by John Singer Sargent as young boy. Definitely worth a visit. Nice place to sit outside and enjoy a snack, and watch the bustle of Main Street and see the harbor.

There are so many things to do in Gloucester; and this place definitely should be on your list. Guided tours make your visit so much more interesting than places where you just wander around wondering what you are looking at. Centrally located in the downtown area, the Sargent House is lovingly preserved as a tribute to the glory of Gloucester's historic past.

A great tour with great information about Judith Sargent Murray, a woman who wrote essays that were both brilliant and funny and pointed to equality between men and women long before that was a common perspective. The house had amazing interior detail, furniture and paintings. Well worth a visit! I'll be back!

This was one of my favorite places in Gloucester. Judith Sargent Murray was a fascinating woman and just hearing her story was worth the price of admission.

Having grown up in the shadow of the Sargent House Museum, it took me many, many years to finally visit. The guides are knowledgable and you can see the house and it's grandeur - while someone faded, you can envision another time easilty. It's not huge and your visit will be 30-45 minutes, but very worthwhile.

I am surprised by the wealth of antiquity and history. Many historical figures who changed the history of the USA are among the list of visitors.
