Went whale watching (great!) and drove over to look at the art afterwards. We were disappointed with how small the area was and had difficulty navigating our way through the small streets. Would not recommend unless you had time to kill.

The art colony is to be commended for creating new life in an otherwise run down part of town with old shipyards. The artistic value lies in the eye of the beholder but appears to draw numerous visitors. It is not as touristy as nearby Rockport, but has much more potential in the long run.

The art galleries and small shops and restaurants that are tucked into this area are fun to explore any time of day. The area is very scenic with homes perched on the hillsides overlooking the water, and the flower boxes and containers add splashes of color everywhere. There is a water taxi that circulates around the harbor with various stops... More

A very peaceful village. The artists are at work, just like in Rockport's galleries. I met only several artists who opened the doors to the public; the colony was quiet and sleepy even though it was past noon on a summer day.

A fun, bohemian art colony with some nice restaurants where you can eat overlooking the Gloucester Harbor. If you want to buy original art, this is the place to do it!

Purchasing art work is one thing but meeting the Artist and having them explain the though behind the work they have produced is art of the finest. It gives you the appreciation behind the work. Purchasing makes you feel good because you are contributing to this artist's professional experience and gives him the sense of pride to know his/her work... More

A fun place for serious collectors or art lovers. Original artwork is on display. Let the artists will inspire you. It was fun to watch them at work. Most of the galleries overlook the water so if you are in the mood for a stroll, go for the inspiration and atmosphere. Park on the street or in community lot. Varied... More

Interesting if you are into it. We are more nature-loving people. The colony is concentrated, so there is not a lot of walking, and there are some very beautiful pieces.

This little colony is nowhere as pretty as Rockport. There are quite a few studios but we only entered one after seeing the price tags on the art there. There are a few seafood restaurants but judging from the menus and the look I doubt that they were exceptional. Okay for a stroll through if you have some time to... More
