I grew up walking in these woods. The quality of the woods has deteriorated. So many trees are dead and many have been blown over. Burning Bush, a non-native, is spreading like wildfire. (It has ununusual branches-almost like fins on the branches). This is a problem because the insects that live in this area do not feed on the Burning Bush. The BB takes up space that native plants otherwise would have used. So insects have less to feed on, so there are fewer of them, and in turn birds have less to feed on-so fewer birds. I don't know if all the dog poop from the masses of dogs dog walkers take here has an effect on the trees. It is a beautiful place, but it needs some TLC.

Lots of trails through the woods and a fantastic pond.
Some of the trails have a bit of an incline and it can be muddy if there has been weather. Also beware of the streams that can swell with heavy rainfall.
One of our favorite things to do is to hike to the remains of a cabin deep in the woods (it's just a bit of stone foundation and a chimney)

Very friendly to dog walkers. Don't need a leash if dog is well behaved. Some people are not very good with their dogs, so be prepared for strange dogs running up to you. If your dog is skittish or wary of other dogs , this might not be soothing. If your dog loves to play with other dogs, this place could be good. It's up to the dog and the owner.

I come here regularly with my wife and kids and dog. It's a big open area with lots of hills, and also a wooded area with a pond. It's good for seeing leaves change, sledding, kite flying, or just hiking

We enjoy hiking and even trail running through all of the various trails in Callahan. Sometimes we even bring our dogs along to for the fun.

What a great way to spend a day in the woods. People do walk their dogs and not all are considerate.
Check for ticks afterward as a caution

This State Park is a large forested area in the Boston suburbs. There are plenty of walking trails and a good variety of plant life. It is a very popular place to bring dogs and one section of the park always has several dogs playing together. If you're not a dog person, there are plenty of trails away from that area. It's a good place to get into nature without driving too far.

Have lived near here for 30 years. Great place to walk dogs or just a stroll. Quite and serine. Areas for off leash dogs and a pond for a dog swim in the warmer weather.

Hostile place if your dogs are challenged by off leash dogs—survival of the fittest here, and very clannish. We were not welcome with a leashed dog skittish of other dogs, all off leash.

Also, today a mountain biker chose to relieve himself in the pond that dogs swim in—excrement left floating along the shore. Not ideal for a family friendly/dog friendly environment. Very creepy.

Tread carefully.
