The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

Very scenic lighthouse that's worth the trek. Wear very comfy footwear as it is a hike, but worth it. Bring a good camera, you can get great pictures of the whole area. And for $8 a person, you can ride the Martha's Vineyard transit buses for the whole day; get the schedule from info booth.

The Lighthouse was pretty to see, but make sure to check hours as it's mostly just open on the weekends for tours. But nonetheless we enjoyed walking around the exterior and visiting the beach area near by. Be cautious of poison ivy near the rocks and wear good shoes as you have to trek through a narrow path with rocks... More

Walked up to this while out for a walk. Just such a beautiful setting I'd highly recommend a visit. Beautiful beach and sand all around.

Beautiful and scenic lighthouse near the Chappy Ferry. Took a jog there in the morning while staying at the Hob Nob Boutique Hotel --great destination to aim for when you're jogging through the gorgeous streets and beautiful architecture of Edgartown in Martha's Vineyard. Situated at the end of a path bordered by fragrant wild rose bushes.

Terrific views of Edgartown from the beach surrounding this light. Also excellent views of Chappaquiddick across the harbor.

We were trying to see as many lighthouses as we could. This one was not yet open for the season but is easily accessible from North Water Street in Edgartown.

The Edgartown Lighthouse is the quintessential lighthouse. It stands in its simplicity at the opening to the Edgartown Harbor and punctuates the scene with its classic design. During the past decade, the lighthouse was deeded to the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society and it is now possible to enter the lighthouse and climb the stairs to the upper gallery for a... More

The lighthouse is right in front of the Harbor View Hotel and walking distance from town. Great place to take pictures, an icon.
