The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

You can walk right up to the lighthouse and all around the outside. Walk along the water, collect rocks or shells, view wildlife and see local fisherman.

The Edgartown Lighthouse houses a small museum but this had closed down for the season when we visited in mid-October. The lighthouse is situated on a nice beach, and it is a very pleasant walk from Edgartown town center to the lighthouse and beach... Edgartown...More

Lovely place to go in Edgartown, its a nice walk from the main town centre and has a beautiful view. It might not be the most important thing to do when in Edgartown but it I think it is definitely worth it.

Walk over from city centre Edwardtown in just a few minutes and enjoy great views of this brillant white lighthouse, the beach, the harbor and the beautiful front-row houses. Afterwards grab a drink at lovely Harbor View Hotel right across the street.

Lighthouse itself was closed when we visited, but walk around the lighthouse was nice. Beautiful water on one side and the nice/cozy hotels/houses on the other side.

There is a path off the main street that follows the water that will take you to the lighthouse. It is between two houses so you have to look for it. You can walk out to the lighthouse and then down the beach and get...More

A casual fairly easy stroll down the beach to the light. Great views of Edgartown Harbor. Not too much near it unless you are staying at the hotel. Seems like it would be a cool wedding venue if that was ppermitted.

We were here in the fall and this was an easy stroll from our hotel in the heart of Edgartown. We got some beautiful photos and enjoyed the walk (you will see many beautiful houses near the lighthouse); as always, I enjoyed just breathing the...More

Not a far walk at all. I'm in my 70's and had no problem. Easy walk and lovely homes with great architecture. Enjoy!

Brooke, Do you mean the Harborview Hotel that is located across from the Edgartown LIghthouse? It depends where you take the ferry to—closest would be Oak Bluffs rather than Vineyard Haven. From there you can grab a MV bus... More
