The Midway motel where we were staying had a binder in each of the rooms with recommendations of things to do and see while on vacation and there was an article about Fort Hill and how beautiful the view was so we stopped on our way home and it was just about one of the prettiest places on the cape.... I came here on a very windy day and had most of the place to myself. I parked up at the top parking lot and headed down the trail towards the beach. There are some nook and grannies off the main trail that are worth exploring. Found a lean-to down one. The trails are well marked. If you loop around... More

This area is often overlooked by visitors, but it is a hidden gem: from the Edward Penniman House which offers occasional free tours, to the Red Cedar Swamp boardwalk which, sadly, needs some repairs to the trails to the ancient native Americal sharpening stone. A family could easily spend an enjoyable half day here hiking the easy terrain of the... More

Fort Hill is beautiful. It has gorgeous vistas and nice 1-2 mile walking trails. And beautiful fields of wildflowers. Sadly, the wooden walkway through part of the cedar swamp is closed, but you can still have a nice and relatively easy walk along the ocean and through pine barrens. The trails can be accessed either from Fort Hill or a... More

Just because late October is a little chillier doesn't mean this spot doesn't deliver. My mother and I walked all the trails - though I have to say, since the bulk of the Swamp trail is closed, that was a little disappointing. The Marsh is beautiful and the Penniman House was very picturesque. I have to say it was one... More

Nice little area with pretty view of the national beach area and some interesting old homes. Great for a short hike and to get out and stretch after a day of sight seeing.

Historic site with restored buildings, but be sure to go to the upper parking lot. Great views of Nauset marshes out to Nauset Beach , Goose Point and the entrance to Town Cove. The vista can be enjoyed from your car, but get out and walk the trails, leading down to waters edge along the marsh.

Splendid walk into Red Maple Swamp. Unfortunately the main, loop, trail has been closed for repairs for several years. A local, whom we met on the dead end side trail, told us local workers requested permission to do the repairs for an estimated $10,000. Government declined for "liability" reasons and estimate repair costs at $1.3 million. That said the trail... More

We visited on a glorious October day. It made us happy to be alive. The marsh is changing into it's autumn shades of red and gold, the water behind it was deep blue and the walks to the shore easy.
