The Museum of Russian Icons was founded in 2006 as a nonprofit educational institution by Massachusetts art collector and industrialist Gordon B. Lankton. With more than 700 Russian icons and artifacts, the collection is the largest of its kind in North America, and one of the largest private collections outside Russia. Spanning six centuries, the collection includes important historical paintings dating from the earliest periods of icon "writing" to the present.

The Museum facility is 16,000 square feet and comprises several galleries, research library, archive storage, conservation studio, an auditorium accommodating programs, lectures and concerts, the Russian Tea Room, terrace, and green roof.

This museum, a renovated 150 year-old former mill, houses the largest collection of icons outside of Russia and is the only United States museum dedicated solely to icons. The owner started this amazing collection when he bought his first icon in Russia in 1989, and since then it has grown impressively. We particularly enjoy the special temporary exhibits that highlight... More

They routinely bring in different displays illustrating various eras of Russian culture and art. Spend an afternoon viewing the icons and what ever they have in for the day!!

This museum, in tiny Clinton Mass, rivals the museum in NYCity in depth. Each visitor is greeted by a volunteer ready to provide a private tour. They also have magnifying glasses so you can see every detail. The collection was put together by a Clinton Businessman--and luckily for us, his wife finally said "no more" to icons in their house--so... More

A friend told me about this museum, and I'm so glad I visited. It has a beautiful and surprisingly extensive collection of Russian icons, very nicely displayed. It's very quiet, a place to enjoy and contemplate this art form. It's worth the 45 minute drive from Boston, and very easy to detour to see it if you're on the way... More

The Icons were all beautiful! There were 3 floors of them. The pieces were intricate and to fully appreciate them, you had to look closely. There were magnifying glasses hung on the walls to use. The colors were amazing and they were beautifully preserved for how old they were. My husband and I were thankful that Mr. Lankton began his... More

There's a collection of over 400 Russian Religious Icons. Some date to the 1400's. Each Icon tells a story. Some a single scene and some a lifetime. I found the most interesting the calendars with each saint depicted in the month of his or her feast day. The art is incredibly intricate. The artisans were dedicated to their work. Magnifying... Thank you so much for the kind review! We agree the calendar icons, called a Minyeia, are truly fascinating. The time and skill needed to paint the tiny figures is immense. We always encourage visitors to make use of the magnifying glasses, and we are happy to read that you did! More

This museum is incredibly well designed. The exhibits are beautifully displayed and the explanations are clear and meaningful. The restored old building is also well worth a visit.
