Hail to the Sunrise Statue and it's surroundings is truly a great site to visit. The bronze statue depicts a Native American man in traditional wardrobe looking eastward with his arms extended. He faces the direction of the rising sun and is said to be greeting the Great Spirit. The casting stands upon a large boulder. A tablet in the... More

This is along Rt 2 in Charlemont, very easy to get to. Parking on the side road. Beautiful stop, the statue is amazing and the Mohawk Park in stones is very interesting. I do wish there was a bit more information on the history and the significance to this place, but it is beautiful. The day I stopped by there... More

This is along the side of the road in Charlemont, and was easily accessible from our campground at Mohawk Trail State Forest. It is a really nice tribute to the native peoples, with poetry, the sculpture and other memorials. It's worth a quick stop, or spend some time connecting with the spirits of the natives.

The park is a great idea. It is done very tastefully and is a great tribute to the Mohawk Indian. Its too bad that it is across the street from a trailer park. Parking is a little scarce but you can pull off onto the road next to it as the bridge is out so there is no traffic on... More

This is one of the iconic symbols of the Mohawk Trail. It’s a free attraction. The bronze “Hail to the Sunrise” Statue in Mohawk Park, is a memorial to the Mohawk Native Americans. The Mohawk atop a large boulder with his arms raised and outstretched toward the rising sun in the east is a powerful image I remembered vividly from... More

“Hail to the Sunrise” is a lovely monument just outside the town of Charlemont, Mass, about halfway along the Mohawk Trail. The Monument consists of a prominent statue of a Mohawk Indian and a reflecting pool, and is the main feature of Mohawk Park, a roadside park on the Mohawk Trail. It was sponsored by The Improved Order of Redman,... More

A quiet place to stop along the Mohawk trail for a restful picnic or just to enjoy the scenic view. If your interested in American Indian culture this is a great stop.

This is a small park where you can think about the past and how hard the Native American's had it when America was visited by others. There isn't a parking lot but you can park on the street. There are many names of people from many tribes and it states where the tribes are located. It does lack history lessons... More
