Leave the traffic behind and enjoy a walk through the butterfly garden, forest or beach on the bay. After seeing what the proceeds of the US Duck Stamp does you'll want to buy one every year.

There’s a small but good visitor center at the end of the road, and there we got a map of the hiking trails, and recommendations on which to take. All the trails are rather short, but each offer different views and experiences. We were warned about the insects in the Duck Inn trail and figured we’d be okay after slathering down with insect repellant. Wrong! We cut that walk short. In other spots we loved the views across the Chesapeake, and seeing numerous eagles.

very quiet, very pretty. Nice short walking trails. Great birdwatching. Would also be nice to ride a bike through, instead of drive. Lovely protected refuge. Butterfly garden and native plants.

It was our first visit to the refuge. It was beautiful! I wanted a map so we could better determine where to go in the refuge, but the only ones available had caterpillar cocoons on them. The office was not open.

A little too hot for a really enjoyable visit. Spotted an eagle and then 3 ospreys on the way out. Nice ranger station and small gift shop. Boardwalks out to areas closer to the water. Very nice.

Must see the butterfly garden and trail. We saw over 50 butterflies. The garden of flowers is also very beautiful. The trail leads to a platform overlooking the water where there is a free view finder that you can use to see eagles and sailboats.

We stumbled upon this little gem and so glad we did!!! So much to do and see... the more you look the more you will find... this refuge is huge and clean. We saw 4 Bald Eagles, Ospreys and a snake. So beautiful!!!! Get outside and explore... you won’t be sorry.

This is a great place to spend a morning if you like the quiet of the sea and scanning the horizon for birds. Not a super great place is you have young, active kids. We were here with boys 6 and 8, and while they loved the occasional beach and watching the turkey vultures, the rest for them was sort of boring. Most of the hikes/stops were pretty short. We drove the furthest south end of the park and worked our way back north. I suggest going in the morning for fewer crowds. Many of the trails were pretty muddy so wear appropriate shoes.

Enjoyed walking on the trails despite the visitor's center being closed due to the pandemic. Very scenic.

This was a great way to spend the afternoon. There are multiple trails, an observation deck with a great view of the Chesapeake and myriad animals: we saw jellyfish, a variety of sea and predatory birds, a mother raccoon and her babies, stunning butterflies, etc.
