have never been in there, keep saying that I am going to take my grandchildren in there but have never made it.

I have heard great reviews about this, my grandson loves to go there, so I really need to take the time and take him back there.

We wandered in here, after finding out that the railroad and transportation museums were closed. We were cabin-camping at Herrington Manor State Park. The lady at the front desk greeted us warmly. We went from room to room, admiring the vast collections of historic objects and pieces relating to Garrett County !!!!! There is a train in the first room,... More

This is an absolutely lovely little museum. The collection is extensive, and very creatively displayed.

My husband and I visited this site during the Autumn Glory Festival in October, 2016. It was quite crowded but it was on the day of the main parade. The museum is free which is great! There are several rooms and each features a different theme on the history of Garrett County, with displays of artifacts and texts on persons... More

... this museum allows for a deep and wide view of a town and a county in their heyday... when the railways going through Oakland turned it into an important relay node towards other cities.. pictures of now defunct hotels and busy railway construction point to an industrial and social activity that would be difficult to evince from today's relative... For such a small town, Oakland, Maryland has three wonderful, quality museums to delight history lovers, all within sight of each other. There is the B & O Train Station with its focus on the importance of the railroad to the area, the Garrett County Transportation Museum filled with a large array of vehicles....cars, buggies, boats, bicycles, fire truck, etc.... This museum was a delightful surprise when we first visited it. The displays are well done, showing the history of the area. The support staff was more then willing to explain and answer questions we had. This museum doesn't take long to tour, but worth every minute.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this place! Goes back to the origination of Deep Creek Lake and the bustling Oakland area! Loved it
