Easter Eggstravaganza 2022 at Newark Baptist Church

We attended the Easter Eggstravaganza 2022 Egg Hunt at the Newark Baptist Church at Fair Hill. Registration was required for this event. The event started at Noon and was scheduled until 3PM with the egg hunt beginning at 1:30PM. We got there around Noon and parked. Volunteers were guiding us into parking spots. From here the parking lot was clearly marked off with cones and borders to separate the parking from the event space. They also had a nice tent set up that clearly marked the information table and registration check-in. Here we were greeted by 2 ladies who verified our registration and provided wristbands to the kids. We were given a bag with information and I believe a small book of crayons & children's board book about the resurrection of Jesus. Once checked in we made our way over to the food area. Here they had hot dogs HOT off the grill, bagged chips, juice boxes, water bottles, fresh popped popcorn with lots of seasoning options and freshly spun cotton candy! ALL of the volunteers working the food stations were super friendly. They encouraged us to partake in their dining options. We felt very welcome here. Food was all very good. My only concern was that they did NOT have someone with food grade gloves on handing out the hot dog buns, but rather just had the buns set out on the table for guests to reach in & take. I was a little turned off by the thought of unclean hands possibly reaching into the bags. I did like that the popcorn was bagged into individual bags. Kids LOVED the popcorn with flavoring powders and the cotton candy. After we ate, we decided to make our way around to all of the crafts, activities and games offered at the event. They had a coloring station and a craft station where you could make a foam Easter egg. They also had a FREE face painting station, which surprisingly moved rather quickly! They also had a few different bean bag toss style games, an egg spoon race game, bunny sack races, corn hole, sidewalk chalk area and hula hooping. At each station the kids got to choose candy after completing the game. I though this was really nice. Around 1:30PM they made an announcement that the egg hunt race would be starting at the sound of the music. The egg hunt fields here were divided into multiple age/grade groups, including a special needs section. There seemed to be a decent amount of eggs in the fields that were clearly visible. There were also a few GOLDEN eggs mixed in. The GOLDEN eggs created competition amongst the children. They were all instructed by staff not to push or shove others during the egg hunt/race, but BOTH of my children were pushed by other children. The competition for the GOLDEN eggs was in reality NOT necessary because the GOLDEN eggs did NOT contain any special prize or token for a larger prize. ALL eggs had candy in them, including the GOLDEN eggs! At the end of the hunt, our children had probably collected a dozen or so eggs each. They were happy with what they had collected. After the race, staff told us that we could either keep our eggs or return them to be repurposed for next year's hunt. Overall, the kids really enjoyed the face painting, games, activities and food at the Easter Eggstravaganza 2022 at Newark Baptist Church. They LOVED the popcorn and cotton candy. Staff were all friendly and welcoming. Event was well organized and everything was clearly marked except for the restrooms. Kids said they liked the egg hunt, but wished that kids did NOT push and shove them. I think that IF Newark Baptist refrained from using any GOLDEN eggs, they would see less competition and therefore less pushing/shoving. That would be my one BIG recommendation for this event in the future. I did like that there were enough eggs in the fields for each child to at least get a dozen or so candy filled eggs. I would attend this event again in the future as it was an enjoyable, well organized family friendly event.
