We took an hour cruise out of Crisfield to Smith Island on a very comfortable ferry. We sat outside which was nice hut if it is hot or rainy, you can go inside. Once on the island, we ate at the restaurant right at the...More

We 100% had a lovely day trip to Smith Island! Took the Jason 2 ferry ($25 R/T) from Crisfield @ 12:30. Sat up in front on the breezy bench- below the Cap’t. Enjoyed a beautiful 45 minute ride with pelican, eagle, fish, crab and heron...More

Smith Island was amazing! We kayaked and rode our bikes to places of incredibly natural beauty. The local culture is distinctive - warm and kind (not to mention the unique accent). Home-cooked meals at our air bnb. Boat trips with an Nth generation "waterman," seeing...More

Took the ferry to the island which was very nice however, the island itself was a huge disappointment. Rented a golf cart and was only able to access a few streets due to high tide. They won't let you drive through any water with the...More

A longtime Marylander, I somehow never heard of Smith Island until several weeks ago. Desperate to get away from the madding crowds, even for just a weekend, I googled and found Outside online's 28 best trips of 2016. In Maryland. About an hour later, we...More

As the mom of four teenagers, I am always looking for something to do on our family vacation that is different from the usual Boardwalk amusements. Smith Island provides a refreshing reminder that family time doesn’t need to involve technology. The one hour boat ride...More

Smith Island is a working island. Not much for tourist and the associated amenities. The Island provides a safe haven for boaters traveling across the Chesapeake. Locals there protect their Island and value their heritage. A wonderful place to relive days gone by.

The ferry ride is 45 minutes. We left Crisfield at 12:30. We were on Smith Island by 1 and had to be back at the dock at 3:45 to head back to Crisfield. We had plenty of time to explore it all in those 2 hours we were there.
