Spent our first evening visiting the museum that belongs to the guide who also lives one floor up. You can tell that he put a lot of passion and invested a lot of resources into the museum that he runs as a small family business. Must see to support local economy and culture!

Even if you are not a museum-type person, this place is a must-see/visit (feels more like a house visit than a strict museum). We went there knowing it would be interesting as Slim, the owner of Dar Ayed really recommended us to visit it.
We were not disappointed. The owner of the museum, Mongy, is an amazing story teller. We went through the entire house and he explained to us everything in great detail. He would answer any of your questions related to the berber/amazigh culture and traditions. You will definitely be surprised and be amazed by the culture and traditions.
HIGHLY recommend this place!!!

A true dive in the berber past and tradition, ranging from housing and getaway tunnels to clothing, looming and every-day customs of the locals that are slowly fading into the modern world. Many thanks and much respect to the delightful host who tirelessly explained all the exibits and elaborated on them with patience, pride and honour !!!

OK in its own right. I recall mostly the Berber house located underground to provide chillness. Fine.

The owner of the museum has done a wonderful job. He has a very beautiful little museum full of interesting and beautiful items. He is a very enthusiastic teller of the Berber history. We were also able to have an original Tunesian dinner in his house at night, after which he again told us interesting things about the area.

This museum is the result of the hard and dedicated work of a single man. If you are lucky as we were, you will meet the man. His knowledge of the past, take you trough the history and small details of the every day life of the region. My son and I will definitively visit this wonderful museum again.

This is probably the best little museum I have ever seen.
A very friendly and knowledgeable host, who will give you a tour around the cave dwelling. He is obviously very passionate about Berber history and will show you how to write your name in Berber!!
No entrance ticket. Just a voluntary donation at the end or you can buy some of the souvenirs which are well made and a refreshing change to the usual rubbish souvenirs you find in almost every museum round he world. Absolutely no pressure from the host to buy or donate, but you will want to support his effort.

The village of Tamezret is fabulous and original, very much unlike the tourist trap of Matmata. Take time to walk around the narrow streets and the view from the top should not be missed.
