We visited this beach on a very foggy day and could not see anything. It is rather rocky and was a fun walk, but if you want lots of sand and swimming, this is not the beach for you. Parking is hard to find and costs $.

The cottages were clean and new. The staff were great. They made sure we had everything we needed. It was dog friendly and people friendly. I am going to book again for the summer months in 2021 and look into a family reunion next Columbus Day weekend. Can't say enough about the place.

If you want an authentic sandy beach with little to no seaweed. No “sea wall” where the tide comes in at 2 pm and you have to leave - this is for you. Parking $5 an hour - cheap compared to other beaches. We were in Kennebunkport and didn’t care for the beaches there. So glad we drive the 15 minutes here. Breathtaking. Not crowded. Wish we had discovered earlier !

Stayed at Drake's Island resort, which is right down the road. This is the best beach by far and for locals. So if you want to avoid the crowded touristy beaches...run here. Dog friendly before 8 and after 6.

Although I grew up in the area, I had never gone to Drake's Island until this trip! I was amazed at the amount of parking that was available. I was also happy to see that it was not a long walk to the beach (probably about a 1/4 mile). I will definitely be going to this beach again in the future!

I’ve come to Drakes twice a year since I was seven now I’m 81, still love it. Walking the beach, the ocean waves, the fresh air, just love it. Accept parking is now a,problem. Years ago we parked down the road and walked up now it’s difficult.

Very nice beach. Clean and the water is chilly and refreshing. My son loved the waves. I do wish the bathroom and changing facilities were better.
The parking lot is small bit was not full when we went. It is a short walk to the beach from the parking lot.

Found this beach on a whim last fall. Beautiful clean Beach, not crowded. This beach would be perfect for people who like quiet getaways in a secluded area. The parking lot is very small, there are no stores no Boardwalk so make sure you bring everything you need and get there early.

This beach is big. Plenty of sand, plenty of room. It's a great place to walk at any time of the year. There are assorted places to park. Being the off-season, we got one of two spaces in a tiny lot adjacent to the beach, but larger lots are nearby. Scenic views and plenty of ocean for your sea activities, and plenty of sand for your beach activities.

Drakes Island Beach is a lesser-known beach in Wells because it’s well off the beaten path. Its out-of-the-way location makes it a hidden gem.

It’s a very well-kept beach.

On my visit, I found two points of access. The first was a very small lot with just five free handicapped parking spaces at the end of Drakes Island Road. The second was the main access at the end of Island Beach Road. A friend met me there.

The second lot has metered parking. The lot has about 75 parking spaces. Some spaces are for vehicles with handicapped plates or placards. Fees are charged from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. I saw three ticketing kiosks ~ one near the restrooms building, another at mid-lot, and the third at the end of the lot near the porta-potty at the entrance path to the beach. They accept cash or credit cards. No fees were posted.

We arrived after 5:00 PM, so we didn’t have to pay.

The path out to the beach was lined with a very long waffle-pattern rubber mat to make it easier to walk over the very soft white sand and rocks underneath.

There were about a dozen people on the beach when we arrived. It was a bit windy that day so we didn’t stay long.

The beach was very clean. There were no lifeguards on duty.

This is a beach we will visit again.

We rate Drakes Island Beach at 5.0.
