Celebrating Maine's Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America's greatest artists. With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 15,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings, the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, and Julia's Gallery for Young Artists complete the museum complex.

I enjoyed the Wyeth exhibit in the church but it was the trip out to Hawthorne Point to the Olsen House that made it a great day. The docent there was excellent. She made the the stories of the people of this house so very...More

Last week I enjoyed a wonderful film in their comfortable auditorium about NC and Andrew Wyeth. It must have been at least 45 minutes long and interesting the whole time.

We had no idea the amount of time A. Wyeth spent with his subjects! His dedication to his craft is appreciated. Beautiful.

I do enjoy art but found many sections of the Farnsworth to be dull and uninteresting. The pencil sketching was boring to be. Even some of his finished works were repetitive and lacked creativity.

Spent a wonderful afternoon here looking at their wonderful Wyeth collection The Farnsworth is quite a find in this relaxing Oceanside community. I learned a great deal more about Andrew Wyeth and Christina Olson.

If are even close to Rockland, make this a destination. It's a beautifully designed museum and is always hosting fantastic exhibits. This year is a celebration of Andrew Wyeth's 100th Birthday. The collection of water colors on exhibit is breathtaking.

This is a small museum in a small town and is so worth the visit. It is laid out nicely and has a lovely little gift shop. If you are an Andrew Wyeth fan, there are lots of nice prints.

Great local art museum featuring the Wyeths. It's long been a staple for educating the local youth with class outings for a visit each year. It seems to be ever expanding and buying additional buildings in downtown Rockland area. Those with an artistic interest will...More

Such a lovely and bite-sized museum. We had foreign friends who really enjoyed the "local" flavor, both US art and Maine specifically. The current exhibit with A Wyeth drawings was a revelation. Easy, well-kept up, and a Must stop for travelers.

The Farnsworth is a first rate museum and well worth the visit as it showcases some interesting American artists and plays great homage to Andrew Wyeth. The converted church that focuses on Wyeth's watercolors and various photographers studies of the Olson House is not to...More
