I had no idea there was such a cool place along Route 1 until I happened to see it on Google Maps. The views from the top of the observatory are spectacular - 400 feet above the surrounding countryside. The bridge itself is an engineering marvel if you're in to that sort of thing (I am). Don't miss it!

The observatory is 15' taller than the Empire State Building. There is an elevator which takes visitors to the top, then a short flight of stairs. There is even a handicapped access which will accommodate a wheelchair. The view is amazing, the construction of this bridge and observation tower a major feat, and one can see over the valley and... We went over this bridge on our way to Bar Harbor and decided to stop on our way back thru.  After a quick history/explanation on the construction from the staff, the elevator whisked us up to see the views were beautiful from the top.  Since we were there, we decided to take a few minutes to go to Fort Knox... Our family stopped on our trip up the coast. This was coupled with Fort Knox, and we spent about an hour or so seeing both. The ride up to the observatory was quick and the view was awesome. We also enjoyed Fort Knox. If traveling, this is a fun way to stretch your legs and see something special at the... More

Stopped on way down the coast from Bar Harbor @ suggestion of our innkeeper - so glad we did. This is a "must see" if you're in the area. This is the tallest bridge observatory in the world - the views are amazing. The docents are very good and the educational aspect is brief, but well covered. Fort Knox Historical... More

What a great view, especially in the fall. If you are anywhere in the area, you must visit. It has stunning vistas.

Not for those with vertigo! 420 foot tower, part of the mast supporting the bridge cables. Elevator up then two more flights of stairs. Views in 360 degrees. Be sure to go on a clear day to get the best pictures.

Just happen to come upon this attraction on the way to Bar Harbor. Fort Knox Historical Park and Bridge Observatory. Great Fort and great views from 400ft up.

Tremendous views from the observation decks! Get tickets at Fort Knox, then ride the elevator 40+ stories up. Three levels of observation decks so it was not crowded when we visited near closing time. Clear day, so you could see Cadillac Mountain in the distance, and fab views up and down the river. Make sure to read the story boards... More

Next to Fort Knox Historical Park, this bridge boasts a smooth, fast elevator ride up 400 feet. You then walk another 20 feet up to the observation tower. I recommend you go on a clear, sunny day and the view will be amazing. We went on a cloudy day and could still see the top of Cadillac Mountain.
