If you want to get up close and personal with Portland’s landmarks, lighthouses and harbor seals AND learn some city history, join Portland Discovery on a Land & Sea Tour! Start your day on board the Discovery trolley as you travel from city streets to rocky coast and make your way to Portland Head Light, Maine’s oldest and most photographed lighthouse! After a break for lunch and shopping in the Old Port, board a classic cruise boat for a 90-minute narrated harbor tour, where you’ll see 4 lighthouses up close, 3 Civil War forts and several of the inner bay islands, including Halfway Rock Ledge, home to many seals and seabirds.

A chance to see the harbour and learn a bit about the surrounding area and local history (did you know that lobsters were once served to prisoners every day, and they passed a law preventing it!). You could sit or walk around and the 90 minutes passed by rather quickly. Good views but not heaps of OMG pictures!

Hi BarryandJackie, Sounds like you were taking notes! Thanks for joining us on what sounds like was our Lighthouse Cruise as we don't advise getting up and walking around on the trolley tours. Thanks so much for joining us! More

We had only one full day to see Portland while visiting family and this tour was ideal. We took the 11:30 boat tour which was narrated and described maritime history, and history of several lighthouses. You could be inside the cabin on the boat or outside on the deck. Be sure you are dressed for wind and weather on the... More

Hi Sue G, Thanks for the great review and for joining us on both tours. We love to hear that we helped our guests create some lasting memories and cool photos as well. You are correct that, especially in October, it can get windy and a bit brisk so dressing for cooler weather is always a good idea. Sounds like... More

We purchased tickets for this tour while on a stop in the Portland Port from a cruise ship.We had a great Trolley tour of Portland with "Portland Discovery Tours" and a stop at the Portland Head Light. The guide was very informative and the scenery was amazing on our ride.Everything was wonderful except for the porta potties during our rest... More

Hi CanukTraveller, Thanks for taking our Portland City and Lighthouse Tour and so glad to hear you enjoyed the history and scenery. Sorry to hear the Porta Potties were not up to par... the town of Cape Elizabeth likely maintains those as they started charging fees to the large motorcoaches that visit the park, as well as our trolleys and... While waiting for a table for lunch at Dimmilio's I was sitting next to a couple who were looking through the pictures of the Lighthouse they had just taken, and they told me about the Trolley, so after lunch, we hurried to the kiosk to make the last trolley tour. The tour through town was informative, the summer homes of... More

Hi quasimoto, Glad you were able to track us down and catch our last Portland City Tour of the day. There are some beautiful homes out in Cape Elizabeth along the coastline, and the stop at Portland Head Light is a highlight for many. Thanks so much for joining us! More

Dress warmly to sit outside so that you can move about the ship enjoying the views of lighthouses and small islands. Highly recommend! Especially the view of the Portland Head Light!

Hi Barbara, Thanks for taking our Lighthouse Cruise while you were in Portland and thanks for the recommendation as well! It's true, even in some of the fringe-summer months, a jacket is a great idea so you can be outside and take in the salt air and views. More

Good way to see the area and get a good background historical review. The option to hop on/off is a very good option to allow individual interests to be satisfied. Only downside was that it was raining - put a damper on our plans for a long walk. Still highly recommended. This tour was set up by the cruise ship... More

Hi Dondi22, Glad to hear you enjoyed the tour, but we should clarify that at least at this point, the Hop-on, Hop-off Trolley is only available to people on certain cruise lines and not to the general public. Our Portland City and Lighthouse Tour covers much of the same information, and also visits Portland Head Light lighthouse, but isn't a... More

Did the land and see tour. Staff very friendly. Tour guides very informative and fun. Jack was the tour guide on the boat. Great job. Lots of neat facts and history. We only had 1 day in Portland and you get to see and do lot on a combo tour. Well worth it.

The tour through the city of Portland and to Head Light lighthouse was so so. Nothing really exciting except for the lighthouse. The tour guide mostly mentioned about places to eat, drink, or snack at. It was more of a tour of where restaurants or bars are located in Portland. The tour guide was funny but there just wasn't enough... More

Hi KAS, Thanks for joining us on the Portland City and Lighthouse Tour and sorry you didn't see more "cool" things. We had the perfect day for a tour - weather wise - so we walked downtown, made a reservation and got on the open air trolley. Hi Tibber55, Thanks for your great review and lots of feedback other guests will surely find helpful. The parking lot you mention is certainly the cheapest down here (most lots are $4.00 per hour stopping around $36.00 or so) and convenient, but they can get busy and overwhelmed. Sorry you had to deal with some brake noise.... we had that... More
