I took a look at the beach while walking the trail. I didn't stop. Clearly, no one would travel to Portland for the sake of this beach. However, some families were sitting on the beach and somebody was swimming in the water. Apropos previous comments about a "dog beach," I noticed a sign saying that dogs are currently forbidden during the summer months for most of the day. I saw no dogs.

we had a lovely day to walk this trail but the beach didn't look too inviting in my opinion. We did the trail at the start of the train and ended at a parking lot near a grocery store. Not being familiar with the area, we were't sure where we were but we loved following the water and seeing the yachts.

I live in Portland, so we find ourselves at East End Beach frequently. We love it because it's so close to the city and because it's dog friendly. During the summer (Mem-Labor Day) dogs are welcome before 9am and after 5pm. In the evenings there are lots of dogs there, so if you're looking for a quiet place to do some tanning, this is not your beach after 5pm. Outside of peak summer months dogs are welcome anytime. This is not a white sand beach- it's rocky in parts and also has a lot of large shells. The view is great and you can walk there from in town Portland.

East End Beach was a 300-yard (274 m) long, narrow, sand and pebble public beach and boat-launch along the foot of Eastern Promenade beside Casco Bay. It offered lots of space for locals and tourists to swim, sunbathe, and chill out. A grassy hillside above the beach had more room for picnics and for playing ball and disk sports. In mid-May, the ocean water was way too cold for a swim, but it looked OK. Benches and picnic tables were in use. The Eastern Prom Trail crossed above the beach; walkers and runners used it. The Harborwalk Trail led the other way to the Old Port area. A few sailboats were moored offshore, and several couples launched kayaks. Public toilets were usably clean. There was a changing area. Free parking was uphill from the launch ramp.

This beach at the Eastern Promenade is in Portland, ME and very convenient to get to. Beautiful views of the sunset here and great rocks to climb on. The beach itself is very small and rocky, but it's a gorgeous place to be near the water.

I live a 10 minute bike ride away and go past this beach often. As enticing as it may seem to stop and enjoy the view and cool off, it is consistently overrun with people with dogs...most not on leashes (the dogs that is). I just rode by earlier today with my girlfriend and we counted 22 dogs on the actual beach! This is a very tiny spot and with that many K9's running around you would be hard-pressed to find a spot to relax undisturbed. If you are a dog owner/lover that's great. If you want a beach for humans, you might want to look elsewhere.

Beach was pretty but on way to beach went over near rock border and received about 10 mosquito bites. Lots of animals would not walk barefoot. Would not consider it a swim beach but place to launch small boat or enjoy view.

Can you send me just love little of cat or stroll by on the Eastern Promenade walk. There's always a lot of activity kayaks coming in people playing or sunning themselves unfortunately it has become where so many dogs swim that I might can reconsider swimming there myself! One of my friends cause it E. coli beach! No explanation necessary!

Came here to see the July 4th fireworks. it was very crowded and dark. We happened to stop walking and sit in a rocky area by the end and hope to have a good view of the fireworks since they were no indications were the fireworks were going to be. Little did we know we sat right across from all the action. Front row view and it was amazing! The fireworks were beautiful.

I love walking the beach in winter and this small beach is perfection. Quiet and calm with lots of pooches romping in the sand, searches for sea glass will not be disappointed especially after a winter storm.
