Commercial Street has many good shops, some good places to eat like Scales, Benkay and Sapporo, art, a good kitchen store and the best seafood purveyor around (Browne Trading). Hard to find parking on the street in the summer although there are pay to park lots nearby.

Commercial Street was pretty cool, although we didn't plan on spending much time there. We had no idea where to start in Portland so we parked the car, meandered around, and ended up on this street. There are a lot of things to do, places to eat, and people to watch.

We loved walking down Commercial St. It was nice to browse in the stores and for dinner and late night drinks. What I found very depressing is the amount of homeless people around. I am not talking a few, I'm talking a few on every single block holding up cards asking for money. They were not aggressive but it takes... More

I love wondering around this street. You never know who you will see. what you will see. or what you'll find. There is a treasure around every corner. Whether you're popping in a new restaurant, or a little trinket type store. you'll find a treasure that will remind you of Portland, Maine

Yes, it's touristy, but it's not just for tourists. There are so many great places to eat, drink, shop, and hang out on this street, plus this is the place where many of the tours start. We love it and stay in a hotel near here each time we visit. There are many recommended things to get, from furniture to... More

Commercial street has a little bit for everyone. It is the main strip on the waterfront and there are hundreds of shops and scores of restaurants. Everything from ice cream shop to lingerie store to bakeries and Starbucks, etc. I suggest getting a map of the street that the hotels give out as it helped us navigate. I also suggest... More

If you are in Portland, you simply must visit Commercial Street. Located along the Wharf and Old Port, it is filled with restaurants, boating activities, trinket shopping, and good views of Portland Harbor. You should make reservations for restaurants for dinner or you may wait more than 1 hour to find a table. This is where most harbor boating excursions... More
