Colonial Georgian architecture that is well preserved and easily experienced in a manner consistent with 1780's. Daily life is well represented and explained plus a video that describes the conflict with the English and the mast trade. The historic reprentation of herb gardens is informative not only for those interested in fragrances but also culinary and medicinal herbs.

Interesting, informative, and fascinating history. Our docent, Peg, was exceptional! Quite passionate and knowledgeable about The Tate House. Suggest doing the waking tour too and check out the gift store.

We had visited Old Port so many times in the past, it was like a second home. But recently my wife found the Tate House museum near the Jetport of all places so on a rainy day we made the trek. The area was unknown to us but steeped in colonial history and still peppered with real colonial homes. Mr.... More

We had a wonderful visit. John our tour guide was so sweet. Very insightful. I learned many things about the area. I never realized what a small world we live in and how things from all over the world effect us here.

My husband and I used a Groupon admission for this attraction. We gave ourselves only an hour and we could have used another hour or so. The house, which is close to 300 years old, is beautiful. Our guide was wonderful. His knowledge of the home, its contents, and the surrounding area was awesome. This is a must see if... More

We have driven by this place so many times and finally decide to stop in and take a tour. Our tour guide, James Nappi, was very knowledgeable about the house and its history. It truly is a step back in time and one has to imagine what the surrounding area was like back in Tate's day when the river was... More

Wife and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about and touring this 1750's house. Hostess/guide Barbara was delightful. Highly recommended.

The docents are very good. The house is nothing special in that it has very little of the original things. The history of the mast Industry, how they did it and transported the masts and the tensions with the British was impressive. The garden in the back was worth it only for variety and number of herbs of the time.

Tate House docents were able to answer every question I had about the history of the house, it's owners, and the area. Besides the normal history of an old house, the docents were filled with anecdotes about the Tate family and their business.
