We were rather disappointed with the location of this statue. It is on a busy street corner with limited parking. It is not near the water which would seem logical. Finding parking was difficult during the week because it is somewhat of a business district. It is not worth paying to park in The garage for the little bit of time it takes to admire the statue. The statue itself is very nice and is a nice tribute to Maine’s pastime.

As statues go, the bronze Maine Lobsterman on Portland’s Temple Street was worth seeing. It occupied most of a small city park. It rested on a granite cylindrical pedestal. A plaque accompanied it, as did cobblestone pavers. Its location puzzled us, since it’s not near the waterfront where one would perhaps have expected it, but nearer the city’s financial center. Aside from that mystery, we greatly admired the artistry the statue embodied, and we were glad we hadn’t missed it.

It's a tiny park located near the Nickelodeon Theater, but the main draw is the bronze sculpture titled 'Maine Lobsterman'. It's not as large as most of the statues in Portland's downtown, but it's more intimate and indicative of the noble and humble status of the iconic Maine lobsterman. There's also a neat little scuplture of a lobster, and the man is shown kneeling and grabbing one of its claws.

Found on Temple Street, this 0.2-acre (0.08 ha) city-owned park’s focal point was a bronze statue (model, 1939; cast, 1975), complete with a plaque, titled Maine Lobsterman, on a circular, granite pedestal in a space paved with cobblestones. The park had no restrooms and no shade trees; it did have peripheral benches along a brick walkway and night lighting. Parking was on the street or at the nearby Temple Street garage. Near the park were cinemas, the museums and galleries of the Arts District, the majestic 110-room Press Hotel (3 stars), and Monument Square with its 14-foot (4.3 m) tall Our Lady of Victories (1890) monument. We were thrilled to discover this iconic memorial to one of Maine’s most distinctive vocations. Be sure to bring a camera!
