    Mail route was great!
We took the early morning ferry run for their mail route. I really recommend this trip because you get to go to many different islands and do sight scene from the boat. You do not get off the boat. We paid fourteen dollars a person.

    Best Boat Value in Maine
To see most of the populated islands around Portland, the Mailboat is an awesome deal. Just $17 for a three hour tour (skip the Gilligan reference). The islands are beautiful and the harbor is interesting with a fort, lighthouses and different island cultures. The staff of the boat are very efficient. We only waited 7 minutes on one island. On the others, we were done in a jiffy. Park at the huge lot to the left of the pier before you come in. $20 for 24 hours.

Visit Peaks Island on the Ferry
Our kayak tour guide highly recommended a visit to Peaks Island on the Casco Bay Lines Ferry. We were mot disappointed. It was an enjoyable, convenient ferry ride and the island is beautiful. Very worthwhile.Tip -- Wish we had known ahead of time that you can rent golf carts, which would have been fun but they were sold out by people who had reserved them before their visit. The ferry is a wonderful way to get around all of the islands and it offers several options. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

Amazing cruise port activity at a bargain price
This was the highlight of our recent cruise, the ferry is next door to the cruise terminal on flat ground so it’s easy to navigate. We went on the mailboat run which was just over 2 1/2 hours. Even stopping for ten minutes for an ice cream at one of the islands.

Great way to see and learn about the Bay
Despite an unseasonably cool spring afternoon, Mom and her 20 something daughters thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon on the water. Our guide Anna shared numerous details about the wartime and settlement history around the bay and many of its islands. The 1:45 hours spent on the cruise was well worth it. For folks preferring a less windy experiece, there's plenty of seating inside.

While it's not a lot of fun to roll out of bed and be on a ferry by 5:00 a.m., it was a unique experience. There was one other family on the boat and the rest of the folks on the outward bound trip were lobstermen, so we had the ferry much to ourselves. The gradual change in the view from moonlight to sunrise was beautiful, and it was really interesting to see what was unloaded at each of the island stops.

We took the sunset run and it was so cold. We had brought layers knowing it would be chilly but weren’t expecting so few seats as they didn’t really state that this isn’t a mail run, but a passenger run and one of the last of the day so the boat was packed with people returning to the islands. It is 2.5 hours and it’s pretty for 30 minutes but then you get cold and then it ends up too dark to see anything.

This was so nice I might do it twice.
Boat rides leave at different times during the day and vary in length from 1 1/2 to 3 hours.
There is some narration.
We saw three lighthouses and numerous small islands.
Highly recommend! Calm and scenic.

great way to see the major calendar islands in the Casco bay, along with some narrations by the captain. Inexpensive, and bring-your-own-food/beverages. ~ 3 hrs duration. excellent way to spend an early afternoon! If you like, you can hop-on / hop-off at the islands stops, too.
