I highly recommend taking a tour with Captain Robertson. Due to the COVID-19 situation, 6 people are allowed on the boat for the puffin tour. We weren't sure how it would be with us and our two small dogs so we went for a private tour. I'm so glad we did! We were able to set up the dogs in the middle on a blanket and when we reached the island, we were able to move around on the boat without any worries about social distancing. Petit Manan Island was amazing! So many puffins flying, in the water, and on the rocks. Captain Robertson did a great job with maneuvering his boat so we would have the best angles to take photos. The puffins would get so close - it was simply amazing! In addition to puffins, there were black guillemots, common eiders, common murres, razorbills and terns. On the way there and back, Captain Robertson gave us a tour and pointed out where the ospreys were nesting and we also saw cormorants and a bald eagle. We had a great time and I wished we had more time to book a 2nd tour with him.

We booked this tour after having a very foggy puffin tour earlier in the week. We called to ask about the weather and they were very accommodating on getting us out on the water when the sky was the clearest. The captain even called us several times to give us updates. We loved how few people were on the boat with us and being low to the water made it easier to photograph the birds. We saw tons of puffins, cormorants, gulls, seals, terns, osprey, and a family of bald eagles. The captain was also able to gives us lot of interesting facts about the surrounding islands. Since the boat was small, the choppy water could be intense at times, just as a warning to anyone who gets easily sea sick. Overall, is the tour was well worth the drive from Bar Harbor and we'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to see sea birds!

We had a great time on the boat ride. There were two other couples on the boat with us. I like that it was a maximum of 6 people which makes for a much more intimate experience. Jamie Robertson is a wonderful navigator. He sure knows his stuff. Unfortunately, the weather made for a choppy ride and we could not get as close to the rocks as we would have liked, but we did see quite a few puffins flying around us and playing in the water and hanging out on the rocks. There were a lot of them. We also saw seals, osprey, 2 peregrine falcons, cormorants, many kinds of terns, and ducks. Nice drive to Millbridge from MDI, and then a trip to Chipmans Wharf. A great day indeed.

We went on the Puffin and Seabird Cruise with Robertson Sea Tours & Adventures on June 23rd and it was beyond our expectations! This is a small cruise operator and I can't stress enough how important that is for people that want to see the Puffins up close. Larger boats can't get close and you won't see much. This cruise is maxed out at 6 people which is fantastic. The owner took special time to talk with us about what we were looking for out of the cruise and made sure we were happy. When he found out I was a professional photographer looking for a special shot of Puffins (and seals as an added bonus) he not only made sure we got our shots, but he moved the boat around to make sure I was always able to get the best views for the camera! The tour was also very informative! We saw seals, Puffins, a bald eagle and some osprey. The day after this tour we did a second tour with a larger operator and was greatly disappointed. I would come back to Maine just for another opportunity to take a tour with Robertson Sea Tours! It was worth every single penny and you end up seeing more puffins then the other tours near booth bay.

Amazing tour to see puffins and lighthouses!
I’ve always wanted to view puffins, and picked this particular guide as there is a limit of 6 guests. That meant it was personal and allowed for interactions with the captain/guide. His knowledge of birds, history of lighthouses and islands was excellent. I highly recommend this tour and will bring other family members to experience it in the future!

We planned a tour within Captain Robertson, and had it fall unfortunately on a rainy day, so we had to reschedule. We managed to get a booking a few days later. It was a great sunny day and we had a fantastic visit out to Petit Manan Island to see many puffins, terns, eider ducks and seals by the lighthouse and point on the island. The trip out was at pretty high speed and was exciting. We also stopped along the way to see a peregrine falcon, ospreys nesting and some seals taking some sun on the rocks. I enjoyed being in a smaller boat with less people for the tour . The Captain was very professional and explained many of the sites and wildlife to us as well. Great tour!

Captain Jamie Robertson does a great job at finding wildlife even at the end of the season. Probably found the last two puffins of the season today. Friendly and knowledgeable. I also liked how his tours max out at 6 people making the tour more warm and personable. And yes we saw harbor and grey seals, porpoises, puffins and lighthouses. Easily worth the $.

A great experience! The small group size made the trip well worth the little extra cost. It felt almost like a personal trip, and we were afforded able viewing opportunities of the bird colonies at Petit Manan. I took a larger boat trip through a company the following day and was nowhere as impressed as I was with Robertsons. If you're a birder and or photographer, or just hate crowds, this tour is hands down the best way to go. Also another bonus is Chipman's Warf right up the road - phenomenal lobster roll and great prices

This is the fourth time I have gone out on Robertson Sea Tours over the years: so that in itself speaks volumes as a returning customer. Took some friends that were visiting us and had a great time. The Puffins and other sea birds were in abundance at the lighthouse plus saw seals and a Peregrine Falcon, Ospreys, and Bald Eagles. The scenery was spectacular and Captain Jamie was his usual personable self, answering any questions and giving us lots of information on all types of things. Good memories that will last! Thanks!

This is the third time we’ve taken this trip, and we would totally recommend it to anyone who wants a great tour and lots of wildlife. We hit a perfect weather day, and we saw so many birds. Captain Robertson does an excellent job and clearly loves what he does.

How rocky is the ride out to Petit Manon? Considering this tour but don't want my kids to get sea sick. Is there considerably more movement compared to a larger boat?

Well the Atlantic ocean is hard to predict so I can't give you a precise answer. There are days it's smooth as a lake and days it can be like a washing machine. We always follow the weather closely and if we feel the seas build enough to make things uncomfortable we will suspend trips. Hope this helps,
Captain R

Hello... We are coming your way the week of Sept 4-11. This sounds like an interesting little "off the road for awhile" trip for we 3 ladies of age, ha.. Where do we make arrangements and what address would I be putting into our garmin to find you? Just taking a day from Mt. Desert Island to come as far North as we can and seeing some fishing villages along the way that are not commercialized. Does Capt. Jim go out more than once daily? Just in our planning stage today and any input you have or suggestions of rugged Maine interest would be appreciated. Thanks Mary

U would have to ask the boat owner that. I was the tourist. But this trip we took on this boat was awesome and I would do it again.
