We traveled up for the Phantom Punch exhibit we read about and enjoyed this gem of a museum very much. No admission fee or even a suggested donation. Just a gentle offer to buy the book for $5 which described the exhibit which was very interesting and thought-provoking.

If you're traveling in the Lewiston-Auburn area, save time to visit the Museum of Art at Bates College. The collection is focused on modern and contemporary art. The Robert Indiana exhibition (through Oct 8, 2016) was beautifully presented. The exhibit halls had a staff member available to answer questions and point out interesting features not to be missed. The museum... More

I spent a lot of time here while attending Bates, and it still is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.

I have visited Bates College since I was a kid. I never attended Bates as a student, but I always loved playing tennis there as a child and seeing the football games. I live in California now, but love seeing Bates when I visit Lewiston.

We stumbled upon this college while visiting in Maine. The certain day we picked, the college had a reception for Shirin Neshat. I did get to see her paintings and was amazed at her work. Later in the summer, I took an art appreciation class and her work was studied in the class. Their art gallery is beautiful, this is... More

Nice, small museum. I enjoy the student shows at the end of the academic year. Bates grounds are nice and you can enjoy a walk around the pond.

Bates College has a great campus and the Museum always maintains displays that are quite impressive. Jazz was the central theme, but Maine landscapes were also displayed and were quite striking. You'll want to visit there in the Fall of the year, but with the museum's variety of programs, you will be pleasantly surprised anytime.

From my own experience, I would say that this free art Museum is worth the time! It is not extremely busy, either. Well-worth the few minutes it took.

This is on the 'Maine Art Trail', which is what brought us here. That and the good reviews of other visitors perplex me. I'm sure if one were local, you would see some interesting things here over time, but perhaps due to its small size, the rotating exhibits may or may not appeal to you on a given visit. When...
