My friends and I drove to the Curtis Island Overlook, which was not easy to find. Once we found our way, there were only two parking spots. We waited 15 minutes for a spot to free up.
After making our way down the path we spotted the lighthouse. Gorgeous! However, the black flies were fierce and we were covered with ticks by the time we reached our car.
A local resident was kind enough to give us information for kayak rentals in town. There are hourly trips from the inner harbor to Curtis Island. I highly recommend visiting the island by water. It's an easy and beautiful way to, not only see the lighthouse, but visit the island.
So, I would give this five stars by kayak and only 2 by land.

Curtis Island Lighthouse is on Curtis Island, at the entrance to Camden Harbor. The Island is owned by the Town of Camden, and the public is welcome to visit, although visitors cannot access the lighthouse. (But you can see the downstairs through the window).
There is a lookout on the mainland, on Bayview St. But the way to see the Island is to get out there by boat. The ways to do this are: kayak, charter (this would include an extended tour of the waters near the harbor and it’s very expensive), private boat, or (and this is the way we go out there) a rowboat that you can rent for $40 a day from Dominic Fontaine. It’s a 1/2 hour row in calm conditions.
Once you are on the Island, there are many things to see: sea birds, the caretaker’s house and grounds, the lighthouse, a swing. And of course, a great perspective of the harbor.
Bring bug spray, water, a flashlight, etc.

The outlook is indeed hidden and quite difficult to find. Turn RIGHT at the stop sign on Beacon Ave and onto Bay View St. The parking area is immediately to the right (photos attached) and the path is across the street. It was gorgeous at sunset and worth the drive.

This is well worth a stop if you want to check off another gorgeous lighthouse sighting. On Google Maps, the spot is labeled as “Curtis Lighthouse Overlook.” From Chestnut St south of downtown Camden, turn onto Beacon Ave toward the ocean, and when it dead-ends into Bay View St, immediately pull off on the right side of the road and there is a little sign nailed to a tree across the road marking the short path to the overlook. This is in a residential neighborhood so be careful about parking since there is not much room there. There is a bench at the overlook. It is a high bluff so hang onto your children.

This beautiful little lighthouse is well worth the search. If you pay attention to google maps, you will not have any difficulty finding it. Heading out of town on Bay View Street it is approx I mile. Make sure you pass Cedar Street, Chestnut Street, Dillingham Point and Penobscot. Continue strait ahead until you reach Beacon Ave. You will see small signs for Curtis Island.. A winding path will take you to the overlook. However, the best way to see Curtis Island is to rent a kayak from the center of town.

We decided to walk from the downtown area to the lighthouse. It was probably about a mile walk, but it was quite nice. The trail to the viewing area is marked with a sign.

It was an easy walk from the road to a point where the lighthouse is visible across the water. Very pretty view.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Maine. One of the many things we did was to make a special point to see several of the lighthouses in the area. Curtis Island Light was on our list and it’s just beautiful. Our GPS kept telling us we had reached our destination (1 Beacon Ave) but we were in a neighborhood so a check of previous TripAdvisor posts got us to the right location to view the lighthouse. So, for anyone trying to find the lighthouse the following repost should help you: you can see the lighthouse from a viewpoint a short distance off Bayview Street. The path entrance is hard to spot. At the intersection of BayView and Beacon Ave. there will be two wide spots on the right side of Bayview St. This is the ONLY parking for the lighthouse. The path is directly across the street with a short walk through the woods to the view point. The path is marked by a hand-painted sign (Curtis Lighthouse Overlook) nailed to a tree.

Watch for a small sign on the road and park across the street. The lighthouse view is very quick walk from the road. There's a bench to enjoy the view. The lighthouse is on an island but the view is great. This could be a 5 minute stop unless you want to sit for a while.

Wonderful photo opportunity from the water. Privately owned and on an island, so best view from a boat.

It's a bit off the beaten path but the view of the lighthouse from the Overlook is worth it. Keep an eye out for the small sign at the side of the road. Park and it's just a short walk to the overlook.
