We stayed in Camden and made the very short trip to visit Mt. Battie. For a nominal fee, you have access to Camden Hills State Park (including the waterside park area) for the day. Great overlook of the harbor, Camden and all surrounding areas. Hiking trails available and great opportunity for picnic lunch.

If you are visiting the midcoast you MUST visit Mt.Battie. The views from the top are fantastic. We were disappointed to learn the park closes before sunset.

The easiest access to Mount Battie is via the Camden Hills State Park on Route 1 in Camden. You can park at the bottom and hike up the winding road, or you can pay a fee at the rangers' booth and drive up. The drive takes about five minutes, and once up there, you'll find a stone lookout tower, various... More

Lovely views of Penobscot Bay from the summit of Mt. Battie. Well worth the short hike up. Day use fee of $4-$6 depending on in- or out-of-state residency.

You can drive but the hike from the first parking lot was lovely. It's a wonderful view of the islands.

We took a hike in the park earlier that morning (I would definitely recommend taking a hike while you're visiting). The drive up is very short and at the top is a great spot for picture taking and there is a trailhead there also,

Drove up here for a beautiful view. Lookout tower was being worked on but still a great view. Lots of sail boats in the bay.

There are relatively easy trails to the top but you can also just drive. When you're there, the views the Camden and the bay are magnificent. People write poems about places like this! It's an must when you're in beautiful Camden.
