Lazy Jack takes her lines from the traditional Gloucester fishing schooners...

Lazy Jack takes her lines from the traditional Gloucester fishing schooners of the 1850's and has had a colorful and notorious history as a fishing and passenger charter schooner. During the early years Lazy Jack sailed between the East Coast, Man O War Key and Cuba running guns, rum, cigars and bananas. Today Lazy Jack offers 2 hr. day sails or private charters from Pier 1 in Boothbay Harbor celebrating 66 years of continuous sailing and 10 years as Boothbay Harbors only historic working schooner. Lazy Jack is owner operated by Captain Joe Tassi and his son Michael.

My husband and I took the noon sail on a fairly windy day. We had Captain Bob. We found him and his mate to be highly skillfull and entertaining. We loved the fact they didn't do the typical sight-seeing narrative. Being novice sailors we were a bit apprehensive at first but the ride turned out to be exhilarating ! We... More

The sunset cruise was relaxing as we sailed by Boothbay Harbor's beautiful scenery and waterfront homes. Unfortunately, there was no historical commentary of what we were seeing because the captain(the owner's brother) set the ground rules before we left the dock: 1) he wasn't going to answer silly questions and proceeded to say which ones he's been asked by guests... In my fourteen years of sailing Boothbay Harbor, I have discovered it is impossible to please everyone and so at some point, you have to decide who you are and what you offer as a business. I wasn't on board that evening but I regularly tell my guests during our safety introduction about the location of life jackets etc. and... More

Lazy Jack is right! Don't know if I over estimated what I expected but I could have fallen asleep at the pace. Kept watching the other schooner company (EW) sail past the outer islands at a clip pace while we just barely broke the water. People were so bored they we playing on their phones & reading a book. Really!... More

It is hard to know how to respond to someone incapable of recognizing that the Schooner EW was motoring and not sailing and does so all the time and that is why the EW was able to in this instance to make it out to the outer islands. I sell sailing, not motoring. Perhaps your expectations were too high. Sailing... More

I thoroughly enjoyed my two hour sail on Lazy Jack. The Captain and his son are friendly, knowledgeable and make the experience so fun. Took the 3 p.m. Plenty of sun and breeze. I would definitely go again. Highly recommend.

The Schooner Lazy Jack is large enough for comfort and small enough for an intimate sale. We went with friends and joined two other couples for a late afternoon sail. What I liked most was the relaxed atmosphere that was aimed at giving the best seaborne experience possible without too much in the way of narration. Just sit back and... More

My wife and I took the 1030am sailing....great to be 1st on the water. Captain and team were great, personable and very safe. If you're looking at the competition, I would say the biggest difference.... this is a smaller ship that gives you a personal feel and more enjoyment on the water. If you have very young kids, the larger... More

We chartered the boat for 2 hours and had so much fun! The Captain was easy going, knowledgeable about the area, professional and his son was obviously raised to behave the same way. They were both darlings and our trip was amazing!!

Captain Joe $ First Mate Michael provided an excellent, exhilarating, sail out of Boothbay Harbor. Safety, including proper use of life jackets & workings of the sails, well & easily explained. We sailed twice with the good captain, once on a sunny day & then on a rainy day. Both times the schooner sailing was relaxing & fascinating. Both Captain... More

The trip started with the Captain/father/owner critizing us for throwing items below deck when it was his son who placed them below for us. He then said that if anyone wanted to buy the boat, he would sell it right away for a $145k cashiers check. Later, my youngest child hear him tell another couple that he hoped our group... More

It requires time and effort to respond to occasional complaints so since there were two complaints issued from the same party on this particular cruise, it will take you all less time if you just read my response from the second complaint. And Paul, I believe my precise response to your party's ice chests and bags and food being placed... More
