1.3 mile, figure-of-eight loop, east of Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse on Route 102A, mostly through forest with the occasional interpretive panel. Easy amble, even in flip flops. Dogs are allowed provided they are leashed. Modest parking off the road, but enough space available along the...More

Since we were not able to get a parking spot for our RV at Wonderland Trail, we decided to do the Ship Harbor Nature Trail instead. And it was a good idea: the trail is shaped like an eight, so you can walk a different...More

We went to see the light house (disappointing) and hiked this trail as an after thought. Not a long walk (1.2 miles) but worth every step! Hike the two left arms and save the seaside return for the way back. Wonderful views of rock formations...More

Easy hike on "The Quiet Side". Beautiful views, nice hiking trail. We spent the day enjoying the hikes and views in this area.

This was a beautiful hike that my 3 and 4 year old really enjoyed. This trail takes you on top off the cliffs where wonderland takes you to the shore line. (They are basically right beside one another). It was a very well maintained trail.

Nice trail for a family. Good at lower tide for exploring in the pools. Go early in the morning or for the sunset.

This was a nice little hiking trail that can be combined with the Wonderland Trail near Southwest Harbor. It's on the "quieter side" of Mount Desert Island, so it's more off the beaten path and a little less crowded than the trails on the east...More

A wonderful, easy trail for nature lovers. Easy parking. Many views reminded us of Winslow Homer paintings.

We walked the Ship Harbor Trail in the afternoon after having completed the Beech Cliff Loop in the morning. This was a great combination since the two hikes are so different from each other. This trail is mostly flat, and you can follow the coast...More

This is a short hike. Nothing spectacular. Views are ok. Not as much to see on this side of Mount Desert Island.

The answers above are accurate, there are several variations and options in the walk to the ocean si it depends which one you take. If rocks and up and down little hills and uneven ground are not for you, then stay straight... More

It's not long -- about 2 km -- and an easy trail. The time it takes you to do it will depend how fast you walk, how often you stop, etc. It's a very nice trail, but use generous amount of mosquito repellent!
