A lot of Civil War history--and ghost stories, too

The history of Chretien Point Plantation dates to the 1830s. Notorious pirate and gambler Jean Lafitte took up residence at one time. Two Civil War battles that were fought on its grounds. And tour guides tell tales of ghosts who still walk the halls of the mansion, including Lafitte and Confederate soldiers and the original owner, Hypolite Chretien II, who... More

Passed by for a tour and photos but it's now a private residence. I'd love to see the Gone with the Wind staircase.

My friends mom use to take us out here for a thrill as teenagers. It was always a great time. Plantations are always exciting to tour especially when you have someone that knows so much about them. If you are into history and learning about old plantations we recommend you to check it out. Just driving down the roads at... More

Each plantation home has a story and a background. This one is great! They have tours which take you through the home and the grounds. Great for couple or family. The Ghost stories are awesome.

I had been warned that Chretien point was no longer open to the public, but I wanted to see it for myself. It was a beautiful plantation home, but considering the length of the drive from Lafayette and the difficulty in actually seeing much of the home from the road, I cannot recommend that people take the time to go... Wow -- we attended the wedding of a family member at Chretien Point and were definitely not disappointed. The actual wedding ceremony was held outside and was beautiful. Then parts of the first floor were used for the reception, as well as parts of the outside area. It was truly beautiful at night. The food was great. The wedding couple... More

My sister and I drove around half lost for a couple of hours, wondering why there weren't any signs pointing the way, then we found it. We also found out that it is now a private residence and is not open for tours of any kind. You can view it from the road, the house and grounds are beautiful.

I’m a bit of a skeptic to say the least. I’ve been to this plantation countless times and to my surprise, NOTHING…. This is truly a beautiful place to visit but don’t expecting to find any ghost. I work as a patrol deputy here in the parish and I make it my business to check this place out often. I... More

My boyfriend and I visited the ole plantation, chretien point. I stood on the stairwell where the pirate or hooligan was told to be shot. He took a picture of me and above my head is an orange glow of a man's face, beard and a mask over his eyes. There was no one there in the room except him, I... More
