Nice, 15 minute stop of well-presented local history

Just a single room but growing slowly. I dare you to ask to see the Ghost and the spring of Spring Street in the basement.

Knowledgable archeologist (Marty) was on hand to give us details of exhibits. My husband was born in Shreveport and lived on Austin Place but left at 8 yrs old, so we were very interested in the history. A lot of good artifacts, photos, history and info. Marty pulled out a drawer with items excavated from Austin Place making it more... More

We stopped here to try to get a little area history, as my 9 year old is homeschooled and we try to learn even on vacation! This was a little gem! The building is historic, and we learned quite a bit about it and the area. There are some fun exhibits, and though small, we managed to spend two hours... More

Unfortunately, due to a website that has not been updated I can't review the museum. The hours of operation is wrong. We showed up today at 10:45 a.m. to find out the museum is not open on Tuesdays. In addition, the exit is 19A not 16A off I-20.

My wife and I went there and found it to be a very nice small museum. The staff was very very friendly and showed us some items that were not even out for display. It's very good now and their plans are to make it better and better.

Visited on a Saturday; folks working there said it was closed but let us in to visit anyway. Entrance fee is donation. Worth a visit if you are a history buff; staff there were passionate and interesting.

What a gem. Fascinating historical facts about Shreveport and the surrounding area. They have done a remarkable job of restoring this museum.

The first thing you notice about the Spring Street Historic Museum (SSHM) is the building; it is beautiful. One of the oldest buildings downtown, the former Tally's Bank was recently repainted and updated both inside and out. The building is small, but it packs in a tremendous amount of history from the founding of the area to the Yellow Fever... More
