Wifee and I had a beautiful walk among the grounds. The attraction is not mapped, but as you stroll around you'll see different areas you can walk to. You'll see a 350 yr old tree. Walk across a short bridge and fields to other structures.

Spending the day with my sister who lives in Louisiana and traveling around with her and her husband they take us to St Martinville to see the Evangeline Oak and to learn the story behind the Oak Tree. Its a small park but packs a "large" punch with it's beauty. It's next to a museum, which was closed on tis... More

We visited this historic plantation house and visitor center because I am especially interested in textiles, weaving, and the history of women's craft work. The exhibit on cotton spinning and weaving is excellent and includes a working loom for weaving with the local cotton. While we were there we watched a volunteer making rag dolls of the type that children... More

This site has an Acadian cabin and a creole plantation house. It had many live oaks. The most impressive was the Gabriel oak. The staff here was wonderful. I loved that they had bug spray for those who forgot. I learned something from everyone there. This is not the location of the Evangeline Oak. I was disappointed by the Evangeline... More

The tour guide is awesome with his Louisiana history. He was so gracious with his knowledge of the area and of this plantation. A very worthwhile stop while in St. Martinville or even to come back too!

Lots of history here but mostly through exhibits in the old Plantation Home and Arcadian Old Farmstead. Not much to touch or to do other than read and see. There is a good 12 minute video about the plantation. Great beginning to exploring Cajun Country and the Evangeline. Loved the stream-saw multiple red eared turtles, one large fish and multiple... They started us off with a movie about the history of the plantation, and then we got a guided tour of the main house. After, we were able to walk around the property on our own to check out the other buildings. Tour guide was informative, information center clerk was very helpful, and they gave us a great experience.

If you are traveling through the area please stop at the Longfellow Evangeline State historic site. It's beautiful and the ladies sure know their stuff! You will not be disappointed. Take a look back at how the Cajuns and Creoles lived! Part of the park is currently closed because there aren't enough visitors. I would hate to see this happen... More

What's the difference between Acadians/Cajuns and Creoles? Visit this site and you will learn so much! The Creole house was packed with history as was the visitors' center. Acadian farmstead gave rich impression of what life was like, too. Wonderful trees throughout.

Lovely old oaks, I must admit we didn't go in because we've seen so many old homes and we know the history of the Acadian's as we're Canadian and have visited Fort St. Louis in Nova Scotia. But nice surprise that seniors 62 yrs & older are free
