Very interesting tour of the Rosedown Plantation. The family history and the historical stories of the plantation through the years are amazing. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the workings of the plantation and the different buildings on the plantation grounds. Seeing the Inside of the Plantation home was a real treat as it has been restored back to... More

When you think of the antebellum era, you picture Rosedown as the quintessential southern mansion. The tour is great: our tour guide was informative and interesting. The gardens are beautiful; the original furnishings are beautiful; and the view from the upstairs balcony as well. Please make note of the slave's staircase within the home that seem to twist upward in... More

We were in town for a wedding and needed to kill a few hours before we could check in hotel so decided to tour Rosedown. I'll begin by saying my husband does NOT enjoy this type of thing. Ok that said -he thoroughly enjoyed the grounds AND the home tour! I thoroughly enjoyed it (but I always do!). The grounds... More

The plantation and the grounds are beautiful. However when we went the lady that was doing the tour was very dull. She had no personality at all. I think the tour would have been 100% better with someone else!!

We enjoyed learning about Rosedown and the Turnbull family who lived there from the 1830's. Later family members sold to Catherine Underwood, who restored the home and gardens to the tune of $10 million dollars for the purpose of opening the plantation to the public. What a generous gift! When touring, try to get in a group led by Sasha;... More

I visited a couple of Plantations in Saint Francisville and I have to say that Rosedown impressed the most. Sasha was very knowledgeable of the house and the history of the area. The gardens surrounding the house are very nice and despite being only February all of the flowers were in bloom. The tree lined walk up to the front... More

All I can say is WOW! This was by far one of the more extravagant plantation tours I have been on. Standing on the front porch I felt that I was at Tara in the movie "Gone With the Wind." This is an amazing must see plantation! Affordable priced tour since it is owned by the state. The grounds are... More

The plantation was built in 1835, for a total cost of $13,109.29, by cotton planters Daniel and Martha Turnbull. This plantation is well-preserved; it still contains 90% of the original artifacts from its glory days, including a tapestry actually stitched by Martha Washington. And it is especially known for the extensive formal gardens surrounding the house. The house was built... More
