Just been up for lunch on a grey dreary April day with my teenage children. We had a beautifully cooked lunch, everything was fresh ,very tasty and a reasonable price. A basket of chips easily serves at least two, my ploughman's was really enjoyable with fresh warm bread ,pickles, fresh crisp lettuce and a choice of cheeses or ham. We... More

I'd often heard the place mentioned but never quite got round to visiting. After a good Sunday lunch in the nearby Skirrid Inn we fancied some fresh air. The drive through the valley is in itself stunning ( though some sections a bit tight in the lanes ) and about 10 minutes later you come to the priory. It doesn't... More

I started out reasonably early from Hay and it was very foggy. I was off to the Llanthony Priory to the south. I was soon on a very thin rural road crossing the moors and as the fog lifted I got some terrific views before the smell of sheep and cow dung crept in. This was real rural country with... More

A little while out of the way to get too but worth a de tour. Take walking boots and explore the local walking trails. A great bit of British heritage. We had food at the cafe, it was lovely although a bit pricey. There is a camp site just down the road and we are going to go back for... More

I've visited this location twice in the last week. Mainly to walk in the Welsh mountains / hills, but also to see this historical impressive structure. Fairly ruinous, but you can appreciate the effort which went into this building. To get here, from Pandy, it's approx. 6 miles driving along a fairly narrow road in places, but we didn't find... We visited her to use up time having left one hotel and travelling only another hour to get to our next one. It's not easy to get to but worth the detour. There isn't much left of what used to be a huge impressive building but what is there shows the scale of what it used to be. Some of... More

Although the priory is now attached to a hotel, one can wander freely about the ruins. Reminiscent of Tintern Abbey, the stonework is exquisite. We were warned about the narrow road to the Priory and had no problems with the traffic. It is a beautiful tranquil site and well worth the visit.Highly recommended.
