Don't miss this when visiting New Iberia and the Bayou Teche! The volunteers are local who are proud of their heritage and their town. The hometown boys of James Lee Burke, two time Edgar award author and artist George Rodrigue both have many of their treasures stored here in brand new installations.

We were pleasantly surprised by this small museum. It was very well done and we learned much about the area history. We particularly enjoyed the information and displays about the sugar and salt industries.

The folks at the reception were so very pleasant and friendly (as all folks in LA). The visit was very informative and the man made himself available to answer all of our questions...the exhibits are well displayed and explained, and full of surprising artifacts making it well worth taking the time to drop by.

We were very impressed with the quality of the museum exhibits, the videos, the salt mine simulation, and the display of the search for the sunken ship. The docents were very helpful and friendly.

Wonderful small museum. The museum is very informative. Includes a very interesting film about the settlement of the Bayou Teche area & several interactive displays.

There's a very interesting simulation of being in a salt dome and a great display of paintings by Rodrique who is famous as an artist for his Blue Dog paintings- spoiler alert none were on display at the museum. (see photo) as well as some really eye-catching items from the history of New Iberia, Louisiana from the times before settlement... More

This museum will provide you with some of the best historic information about the area and the history of Cajuns. The exhibits are well-researched and well-designed. In fact, I was really impressed. I am a scientist and I don't like schlocky, misinformed touristy stuff. The staff was wonderful and always available for questions and more info. If you want to... More
