Evergreen is true picture of the dwellings that existed during slavery. The Guides are extremely informative in describing the living conditions that existed for the white owners and the in bondage slaves. I still can’t believe this existed in the USA. Original furniture still decorates some dwelling. The cabins for the workers still exist without furnishings. The grounds are beautiful... More

This was a fantastic tour thanks to Ms Desiree our lovely tour guide. She was a charming, warm story teller and I thoroughly enjoyed learning so much about not only the plantation but the history of Louisiana and New Orleans! 100% recommend !!

What attracted us to Evergreen, is its status as a still working sugar plantation. Tour times are limited and the grounds are locked in between. This place is not to be missed! The allees with the live oak trees are beautiful but the real standout was Desiree, our guide. She really gets into it. She had us line up as... More

I visited Evergreen Plantation during our stay in New Orleans. We almost skipped it because there wasn’t too much advertised about it, but I’m SO HAPPY that we didn’t! Our tour guide Desiree was FANTASTIC! I’ve tour LOTS of plantations throughout the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, and Louisiana and I can honestly say this was the best one! Desiree does a... More

We went on an adventure to this site, following the times appointed on the website. We arrived at the opening times, only to find it was not yet open. When questioned about the time, we were told they will open soon. It looked nice and was probably a great place to visit, but we were not going to stay for... More

Désirée was our guide and captivated a big party of about 20 visitors, making one and another participate. She gave us a one-woman-show upon Evergreen and Louisiana´s history, making the visit really vivid! The place is beautiful. After the visit we were invited to grap some oranges and tangerines in the fruit garden! Our teenagers loved it and will remember... More

Desiree's tour was powerful and moving. I've toured other plantations in the area and there is no comparison. If you want history raw and true, go to this one. If you want fluff, check out another one. She also brings you into the tour through participating in the slaves trek to the fields, chants and all. Don't miss this one.... More

Everything about this tour was excellent. Our tour guide was clearly an actress who shared all info with emphasis and emotion. History is amazing. The grounds are in good shape, obviously well cared for. So glad we visited Evergreen.

We had been to a couple of other plantations and decided to visit Evergreen. They have a focus on the lives of the slaves which was extremely interesting and in some ways disgusting. Our guide lives in the area and was excellent- answered all questions and even gave us an introduction to a historian who was walking toward us.
