Fresh Air and Sunshine
Nov 2021
Even in the middle of major renovations, the Baton Rouge BREC Zoo was the place to go on a fall afternoon for sunshine and fresh air. The staff at the zoo were accommodating and even the construction crew welcomed us.

Looking forward to the train getting up and running again but until then we look forward to ZooLights at Christmas time.

Nice Zoo!
Jun 2021 • Family
My family had a great time visiting the Baton Rouge Zoo. They offered a wide variety of animals that were well taken care of. The layout of the zoo wasn’t confusing or hard to follow. It took us about 3-4 hours to view all the animals. A few of my favorite parts were the aviary where you got to get up close and personal with exotic birds, the exhibit that showcased Louisiana’s native wildlife and the free-roaming peacocks and armadillos. Definitely one of my favorite zoos!

Nice place to visit.
Mar 2021 • Family
We had a good time exploring the zoo. Covid rules in place, park was clean. Disappointed that aquarium and train was not open due to covid restrictions. Really enjoyed the cajun food at cafe', had meat pies and crawfish balls surrounded by the company of peacocks. This is a older zoo with many older style habitats. Hope they have plans to update in future to larger more open exibits for the animals. I have been to better zoos, but I have been to way worse. Lot of growth potential for this zoo with additional funding which I sure is a challenge, as with most zoos. However, still worth a visit to support their efforts.

Unkept, Limited Animals, Run Down
Feb 2021 • Family
The animals are just placed on lawns throughout the facility. Not much work is done to recreate the environments in which they originally habitate. Furthermore, they're often just behind chain link fences, which makes it difficult to see, and makes it feel much more like a prison for the animals than a shelter for them.

The informational panels could use a little bit more detail.

The whole park seems to need some serious upkeep.

The staff were very friendly and kind. The pricing was very decent and fair.

If you're able, the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans is much better in every aforementioned category.

Nice day
Dec 2020 • Solo
Nice zoo and a nice walk. It was a cool afternoon so good day to go. Good selection of animals. I wish the pandemic wasn’t happening so I could see the aquarium and reptile buildings. The train was not running I’m sure for the same reason. Enjoyed the day.

Awesome Place
Sep 2020
A smaller zoo than what you might expect from Baton Rouge. But had many animals and exhibits to see. Most of the exhibits were open there were only a few that were either closed or empty. Good place to spend an afternoon.

Fine AZA member zoo in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Aug 2020
The zoo has free parking. The admission price is under $10 and it is an AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) member. This means that if you are a member of it or any other AZA member organization, you get in for a reduced price. When I visited it was a very hot day and many of the animals had enough sense to stay out of the sun. In spite of this I did observe the following: cheetah, jaguar, alligator, rhinoceros, zebra, ostrich, macaw and many others. The grounds have good pathways and it is a relatively flat layout so walking is not difficult. There is a fine gift shop near the exit.

Fun, quick adventure!
Jun 2020
This is not the biggest zoo, but it does contain a large variety of animals that can be seen easily. It took us around an hour and a half to see everything at a comfortable pace. You could go quicker or much longer. The price is certainly right at $9 per person. It was a lot of fun and should be included in your trip to Baton Rouge.

I had the greatest time. All the animals were out and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. This is a very large zoo but we saw it all in a day.

A good zoo
Dec 2019 • Family
The Baton Rouge zoo has had a lot of bad publicity over the years but now it certainly does not warrant it. Obviously not as big as the Auderbon zoo in New Orleans but good value especially for young children. Worth a visit with children.
