It truly is a beautiful building that has stunning curved staircase with a stained glass dome topping it off!
There is so much history here and the unusual architecture that resembles a castle makes it especially inviting! The location facing the Mississippi River is perfect too.
I can just imagine the wonderful events that are held here especially in the beautiful ballroom!
There is a LOT of history here to absorb!

Beautiful building and grounds right on the river. Several informative and educational areas that were well done and presented. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely disgusted with the lying pack of thieves that work in the gift shop. I bought an item on 17th September 2023 which they'd run out of in the gift shop. They had some in the downstairs stock room and said they would post it to me. Weeks later I phone up as I hadn't received my item and was told how sorry they were and that they'd post it right away. I'm still waiting. I hope you're proud of yourselves, repeatedly lying.

This is a neat building and we are glad to have visited, but several things weren’t working when we went. The movie wasn’t running, which had been recommended to do first before touring. It would have been nice because our youngest kids aren’t gonna read all the signs. But they did offer an audio tour so we figured we’d do that, but only three of them were working at the time. So we gave the audio tour contraptions (essentially like a phone you have to hold up to your ear) to the youngest three in our group, and the oldest three in our group all read the displays. So it was better than not having the audio tour, it just also wasn’t as great as it could have been. I think they’re in the process of switching over to a system people can access on their phone, which will be better.

our tour walked to this beautiful unique structure. The guide gave a short history but as time was limited we didn't have time to go inside.

The building is interesting architecturally. There was an interesting and balanced view of Huey Long. A large exhibit was dedicated to Native American boarding schools. While there was brief mention about how the US Government immediately cut the students' hair, forbade them to speak their own languages, and renamed them to strip them of any tribal identity, no mention was made as to the horrific physical and sexual abuse that students endured. In fact, the display gives the impression that it was a great program with drama clubs, marching band, and football teams. There was a room dedicated to the importance of democracy and voting, yet no mention of the Jim Crow laws that prevented half the population from participating in democracy and, in fact, just continued legal discrimination and abuse.

Such a great looking building which definitely looked like a castle. Only open until 3 p.m. If you don't have time to tour the building, at least drive by it.

Beautiful windows and plenty to see.
We had two 10 year olds and they enjoyed it all.
There is an elevator but not easily marked.
