About
The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum is the world's only facility dedicated to the preservation of the international history of bluegrass music. Plan a trip to Western Kentucky and bring your instruments! Newly opened in 2018, the Hall of Fame features a 450 seat indoor concert venue and an outdoor amphitheatre. Attend our jam sessions, concerts, and the ROMP Bluegrass Roots & Branches Festival. Then walk the hills of Jerusalem Ridge, and visit the homeplace of Bill Monroe, just down the road. Exhibits: Bluegrass Hall of Fame, VOHP documentary series highlighting First Generation musicians, historically significant bluegrass instruments, the timeline of bluegrass music, following the roots from the Scots-Irish string bands to camp meetings and gospel quartets, through fiddling conventions, the jazz era, and the folk music revival.

Only open for four hours on a Sunday. A group of 20 to 30 people sat around in the
foyer all playing their own instruments. if you didn't have your own you could borrow
one hanging on the wall. Everyone had their chance to sing and play and the rest
just joined in. All ages taking part. As the tour is self guided there is no rush and you
could return to the foyer at any time to listen to the music. more country than
Bluegrass played but who cared. apparently only happens on a Sundau.

We were given a personal tour of the Hall of Fame since we visited during the time of COVID19. we learned a lot and enjoyed the exhibits. They are still very small; however, they are planning for more and have plenty of room for more.

Wonderful museum full of unique and interesting displays. The self-guided tour is great because you can take all the time you want to browse the displays. The staff was friendly and very informative. We were lucky enough to hear the executive director, Chris Joslin, play music and talk about the museum and the history of bluegrass music. We plan to go back for one of their concerts.

The Picking Parlor is a great way to kick off the tour—you can play or listen to others. The exhibits are arranged chronologically so that it’s easy to follow the development of Bluegrass. The facility is quite nice, and we had a relaxing picnic lunch in the public park behind the building. Since the park fronts on the Ohio River, we had a nice view and a quiet moment before heading out for our next destination.

As a huge bluegrass music fan I was eager to go visit the museum and hall of fame. My wife and I had a great time and really enjoyed the extra information from the audio portion of the tour. As someone who is a fan I didn't learn as much new information as someone who maybe is not that into bluegrass but still found it very informative and interesting. The reason for a four star review instead of a five is the fact that I would have liked to have seen a lot more displays including more current groups and artists and not just a focus on the older groups and founders of the genre. If you are much of a fan of bluegrass at all this is a must see!!

My husband and I made a stop here on our way to the Grand Ole Opry. We thoroughly enjoy the exhibits. It's a small museum packed with great history of bluegrass. My husband enjoyed the picking room where they instruments on the wall that you can play. It was a great time.

We drove a few hours for a weekend getaway. We wanted to get some KY bbq and check out the bluegrass hall of fame. It’s a neat place, full of history. However it didn’t seem like there was a lot to it. We were on the second floor.. and I was like “this is it?” Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area, or are going to be in the area. If you are driving from another state you might want to make sure you have other things you want to check out as well, not just the hall of fame. The riverfront is nearby and it is a beautiful site.

Recently attended Sam Bush concert at this new facility. What a great place. There is not a bad seat in the hall. Sound was outstanding. Very enjoyable. Looking forward to attending more.

Learn about the history of Bluegrass from Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs and on. Some days there is a live free performance, which we were lucky enough to hear the day we visited. A great selection of rare and hard to find bluegrass CDs. Check out the unique wood counters. My favorite part of the museum, (besides hearing a live bluegrass band) was listening thru headphones to the same old bluegrass song by 4 different artists, from old time traditional musicians to David Grisman of The Grateful Dead. Wow!

Yes! Admission purchases are good for the entire day during operating hours. Just let the desk attendant know you'll be back and request a receipt. Thanks for visiting!

The cost for seniors is $8. The museum was getting ready to move to a larger facility. I would call first to be sure they are open.
