About
Buffalo Trace Distillery is one of America’s oldest continually-operating distilleries with over 200 years of history. It has been known by several names over the years, but one thing has remained the same—their fine bourbon whiskey. Uncover the distillery's history, learn about the science of making bourbon, and get a behind-the-scenes look into the production on a complimentary distillery tour and tasting—but make your reservations early as slots fill up fast. It ends with a tasting of some of their award-winning spirits, including their signature Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and Eagle Rare Bourbon. You can explore Buffalo Trace Distillery and other historic spots on a bourbon tour of Kentucky. – Tripadvisor

    Stunningly gorgeous, awesome tour guide
Historical, how can you not visit!! I love their products and hate how hard they are to find!! They didn’t have Blantons or Eagle rare during our visit but that just means maybe next time! The facility band grounds are amazing!! They offer multiple types of tours, we just did the trace tour and will be back for one of the other ones. Our guide Rae, holy cow! She is phenomenal!! She is so good , funny, engaging, entertaining, and knowledgeable!! She really makes you feel your the only one on the tour ! She just is good!! Request her!!!! Best guide we had all weekend on different tours! The history and locations you see while on site are awesome! The fact the tour is free!! And the products are low priced!! The tasting portion was so fun!! We even ate at the little barbecue joint on-site and wow! The food was top level yum tastic! We had so much fun and loved learning what I didn’t know about Pappy Van Winkle brand and how they find the barrels for the final bottles!! So neat and interesting!! Please go and explore! You won’t regret it!

    A must stop!!
Love this place. Second visit and will keep coming back. Excellent gift shop if that's all you have the time for, with a huge selection and fair prices. They drop special bottles daily like Blanton's, Weller, etc so you never know what you might run into (won't find any of that Pappy or Antique Collection though). Nice tasting are and the tours are cool (book it way in advance).

    Rolls Royce of distilleries
We did a complementary 15 minute tasting at Buffalo trace. I tried to get tickets for May when they came out in April at 9 AM in the morning but kept getting the message that I had timed out. We were lucky however, to snag a late afternoon tasting and then we spent time exploring the gift shop and walking around the beautiful grounds. As far as I know, they are the only distillery that does complementary tours and tastings, but as I found out, they are not easy to come by. Was also told they release a special bourbon every day, and that the line starts very very early in the morning to get in to take advantage of that. To prove to myself, that I could, in fact, book a tour I went on in May when the June tours came out and booked two for different dates. I will not be able to attend, but will let them go for some other lucky visitor.

    Blanton Day
Blanton day! When we arrived the line was long….but it was a pleasant wait talking with other Blanton lovers! We waited around 45 minutes, got our wrist band and then to the gift shop. The employees were very helpful and the wait to pay was pretty long but it was also nice talking to the others in the line! Finally have our first 2 bottles 😊

Plan ahead so you don’t miss out
The website will tell you the release date for tour dates but don’t be upset if the event you want shows full. Email them and ask about cancellations and most likely you’ll get a spot. We did the hardhat tour with Daryl and let me tell you, he is enthusiastic about his job and Buffalo Trace Bourbon! We were so grateful to have a chance at a tour of this beautiful facility!

    Blanton’s is the best!
Casual and great free Bourbon tasting and tour. Story of how Pappy and Blanton’s bourbon got started was awesome! Love Freddie and the gang! Get there before 10:00 to get your rare bourbon selection of the day!

    Great distillery
You have to sign up early to get tickets (like 1+ month) but it is SO worth it! Lots of history and great information. It is very old school in how they do things, with a lot of today's technology built in. Great tour, great people, worth the time to stop.

    Pretty grounds, enjoyable tour guide
The grounds of this distillery include a beautiful garden area with waterfall. They did not have a "standard" tour available for us, but our group of five was able to squeeze in on a tour which I think had been arranged for a corporate client (the rest of the tour group was all from this company which will remain nameless). Our tour guide was entertaining, though we didn't really see much of the distillery--just some warehouse spaces and a packing location for Blantons. They have an enormous gift shop, and lots of tasting rooms. Our favorite taste was the Bourbon Cream, a smooth take on Irish Cream.

    Fantastic
I am not a bourbon drinker, but WOW! I went with my husband and friends to visit the distillery. The tours are free- that’s right, free. Make sure to sign up early to ensure that you are able to get a tour. Our tour guide was Mark. He was fantastic; to say he was extremely knowledgeable would be a gross understatement. Mark was incredibly knowledgeable, but he was very easygoing and put you at ease. The facility was beautiful and very well maintained. If you are a bourbon fan make sure to check the BT website for the daily prediction for the gift shop. Of the tours we took this one was by far the best and you cannot beat the price. If you are in the area make sure to stop by and make sure to get Mark- you won’t be sorry.

    BTD IN July 🥃
This is one of the best distillerys on the bourbon trail, tours are free so we did the trace & Taylor tours both were very informative and fun. People line up at 730ish or so to insure they get their favorite bottles, but we still got what we wanted up until lunchtime each day. The grounds are beautiful and huge, almost like adult "disney" you also get free tasting at end of each tour you go on. It's usually Wheatley vodka, buffalo trace, there allocated drop of the day, bourbon creme & freddies root beer. Overall had a fun time, but expect lines, but they work efficiently to get the lines moving.

We hit the Bourbon Trail for our 4th time in the last couple of years. This time we were celebrating my son-in-laws 30th birthday! We started our tour with a stop at Buffalo Trace (our second time in the last 7-months). Tucker was our very informative and energetic tour guide. Our sampling included Weller as the allocated bottle of the day. The entire grounds are awesome to walk around. After spending the several hundreds of dollars in the gift shop we headed out to our next stop on the trail (see my Woodford Reserve review).

Beautiful grounds, informative tour, pet friendly! The entire experience was amazing. The friendly welcome, knowledgeable staff and top notch customer service. Clean and well stocked. Check their website to learn the featured bourbon. We luckily were there on Eagle Rare day. Have fun!

When I heard that our tour was going to take about 45 minutes, I wasn't sure that I'd like it. However, I found the entire tour very interesting and I'm so glad that I didn't miss such a unique experience. Out tour guide was outstanding. The tasting was fun and everyone on our tour seemed to enjoy the total experience. Thank you Buffalo Trace for providing an opportunity to watch your distillery in action without charging a fee!

Jimmy C. led the extensive tour. He was knowledgable and funny. Seeing how much of the vast operation is done manually was very interesting. The tasting was good with several options including a cream liquor and root beer.

Great distillery and easy to get to. Glad we were there on a non-big "release day". Understand when talking to the workers that the day before was very busy due to the release of Blanton's.

You will queue up to register before going on your tour or visiting the gift-ship or tasting. Staff here are very friendly, efficient, and answer all sorts of questions.

Great gift shop and a very nice tasting area upstairs which can be visited with a tour or not.

We (2 couples) took another distillery tour today. This time it’s Buffalo Trace. It was absolutely the BEST tour, including behind the scenes, just for the four of us! We were able to book a tour that started shortly after our arrival without a reservation! And we bought lots of bourbon; we’ll have to postpone getting more wine, because our wine rack will be filled with bourbon! We all agreed this was our favorite distillery tour, we definitely recommend it.

They also have an excellent gift shop. The prices for their bourbon are much less than what we pay back home, so stick up!

Collin who works in the woodcraft shop went above and beyond and made my son’s day by chatting with them and answering all of their questions. He even made them each a part of the barrel with their names engraved on it. My boys 10 and 6 said that the line to see Collin should be longer than the line for wristbands.

Absolutely terrific. Did the basic tour, led by Jackson. Informative history with broad-strokes context and insights into the workings of this famous distillery. Unlike other sterile tours (yes, Woodford, I’m looking at you,) this one takes you along lines where barrels are branded, another where they are drained, and through a hundred year old rick house. Very authentic experience. Will return and recommend.

We were on a tour waiting list for 2 1/2 months and nothing came available. We visited anyway arriving at 3 in the afternoon. We checked in, and one of the greeters, Ralph, helped us. He found a tour for us to squeeze into at 3:45. Annie was our tour guide and she was great. This was an informative tour and it was fun to see and learn the different aspects of Bourbon making. The tour ended with a Bourbon tasting, which was amazing. The grounds are beautiful, they have a lovely garden and everything is neat and clean. The one plus this distillery has over the rest is they do not charge you for tours. Of course we spent a ton of money in the gift shop, which by the fun is phenomenal, but that's what we do. If you are looking for a great distillery to visit, this is one you must add to your list.

If you want the “Disney” experience of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail - Buffalo Trace is for you. For us, we were not impressed. It is very crowded, very commercialized - stand in line to do the tasting, very loud, whiskey isnt that good, then stand in a long line at the gift shop. We did get the Blantons mainly because of the stopper.
