As a retired serviceman, I really appreciate this memorial. Designed by a Kentuckian for the fallen Kentuckians. Unique that it is built like a giant sundial where the shadow touches the man's name on the day that he died.

One of the best Vietnam Veterans memorials I have ever seen. It is a bit hard to find but follow your GPS and it will take you there. Best to see on a sunny day so you can see the sun-dial effect. There is paper and pencils to make rubbings of the names of the Kentucky veterans who were killed... More

I made it a point to visit the Vietnam Vet memorial while in Frankfort. The war was of my father's generation and even today has effects on people. The design is simple, yet elegant. The names of Kentuckians who paid the highest cost, losing their lives in service to their country, brought tears to my eyes. Each name is someone... More

I visited this memorial to see a relatives name and made a rubbing of his name with the supplies that are provided. I was there early in the morning and the atmosphere was very somber, sun coming up and you have a wonderful view of the capitol building. This is a unique memorial in that the sundial cast a shadow... More

What an ingenious design, to use an ancient time-keeping device reliant upon nature, the sundial, to honor the fallen Kentucky veterans of the Vietnam War! When my husband and I visited, clouds had temporarily obscured the sun, but then the sun reappeared, and we were able to see for ourselves the power of this deceptively simple memorial. The view of... More

This is an Engineering marvel as well as an asteticly pleasing war memorial. Two of my classmates are honored here. The idea to put the names of Kentucky's war dead under the gnome of a sundial is brilliant. Although the memorial is simple, plan at least 45 - 60 minutes here to take it all in. Be sure and google... More

This is a war memorial. The sundial will cross a soldiers name on the date the soldiers life was taken. I go to remember and to give thanks for my freedom. I'm the lucky one at some else's expense. Whether you served or not, pay your respects, because those that gave all deserve it.

A beautiful tribute to Kentuckians who lost their lives in the Vietnam war & the MIA. The shadow of the gnomen falls on the names of the dead on the day & year they died. A marvel really. Summer & winter solstice are marked in the granite face of the dial as are the names of the fallen & MIA's.... More

For visitors to Frankfort that are at "off" times when most attractions are closed, this is perfect as it never closes. Best to see it on a sunny day as it is basically a giant sundial that casts a shadow on the KY Vietnam Veterans name on the day of their death. Beautiful quiet area for reflection.
