About
The Kentucky Artisan Distillery opened in 2012, as Oldham County's first distillery since Prohibition. We are a contract distiller and bottler, and are now the home of Jefferson's Bourbons. Guests learn the story behind this incredibly unique brand while touring a craft distillery in an up-close and personal way. Every tour is a behind-the-scenes tour!

    Fun, Tasty, and educational
We had a great time. Our tour guide, Patty, was knowledgeable about the distillery. She shared funny stories and experiences and easily answered all our questions. The spirits were tasty and a nice variety. Tour was educational and fun. Highly recommend visiting.

    Informative and engaging
This was MY number one ask from the group on our trip to KY this past weekend. Jefferson Ocean is hands down my favorite bourbon and specifically voyage 17. All of this to say the expectation was high for me and I was NOT disappointed. Being able to snag a bottle of Ocean 26 and having it be a signed bottle, perfect. The tour was very informative and engaging, I really enjoyed the story of how Jefferson came about and the tale of Jefferson the shark. Patty was the perfect guide and we will absolutely be making a return trip.

    Great Low Key Bourbon Tour
Everyone that works here is extremely nice and accommodating. We had a great tour guide that was very knowable and took the time to explain everything. I especially loved learning about the business side of bourbon making and how Artisan fulfills a niche market.

This is a perfect first time bourbon tour experience.
This tour is a delight. Convenient parking and a facility ideally proportioned for the short walking tour of the production area ahead of comfortable seating in the tasting room. Not a noisy factory experience like some other bourbon trail venues.

    Well worth it
We did the tour here and found it one of the best we have been on (um, yeah, well perhaps we have done a few distilleries around the country…). Our tour guide was Wes and he was excellent. While much of the process is stuff we had heard he brought in why Kentucky bourbon was different and blended (get it?) some interesting history. He was engaging and gave great descriptions and discussions about the bourbons we tasted.

    Kentucky Artisan Tour (Jefferson's Reserve)
A small distillery a bit off the beaten path but a great place to visit. If you are a fan of any of the Jefferson's Reserve bourbons, this is a must stop! It was fantastic to see some of their original equipment (still being used today!) that dates back into the very early days of bourbon making. If you enjoy the Ocean's bourbons, you definitely need to visit and hear that story! (Sorry, no spoilers!!) Go visit them, hear their story and then enjoy some very fine bourbons during the tasting! My 20-something daughter and I had a great time here. Cheers!! The tour and tasting take about an hour but you will want some time to shop their gift shop so get their early or stay a bit after.

    Jefferson’s Bourbons
We hadn’t stopped here in many years but wanted to go if for no other reason than to pay our respects to Steve Thompson who passed away in 2021. Steve participated in a tour we took a long time ago and he has left a legacy of a laid back, friendly place to visit. A casual look around – we were the last people there this particular day – showed it’s still a place that exudes an entirely personal experience. Since our last visit, they have expanded with a patio and “front porch” where you can hang out a bit. We spent time – and money – in the gift shop which offers a couple expressions not readily available in retail stores. Kentucky Artisan may look a little remote if you’re staying in downtown Louisville but it’s an easy 20 minute or so drive and depending on your curiosity, there are several ways to get there. Bonus: 3rd Turn Brewery and Beer Garden at Oldham is just down the road, not even a three-minute drive.

An hour we'll worth it to see a small batch Distillary.
Tom (the guide) was very informative and answered questions. The overall process was explained well along with thecontract Distillary process. The tastings provided a better feel for the various nuances of distilling.

    Best bourbon tour ever!
We LOVED this tour! Dee, our tour guide, was phenomenal! The history was fascinating and she made the whole experience so much fun. Shelia was terrific too - she greeted us when we got there and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with her. The atmosphere is warm, fun and welcoming. And let’s not forget the bourbon! Simply the best we’ve ever tasted. It’s so good we came to Louisville to tour the distillery for our anniversary! You’ll love it.

During our weekend in Louisville to do a bourbon trail, we hit 3 different distilleries. Kentucky Artisan was the last one. It was our least favorite of the 3, but still a very good tour. However, I think it was the most informative of the 3, due to the great job Wes did. He explained things in the process of making bourbon, that we had not heard on the other tours.

Our family of 4 loved seeing a craft distilling operation, and were thankful to find a tour inclusive of our children (10&13). The tour size was small in January and felt more intimate than others, allowing for more question/answer and conversation with the tour guide. Everyone there was welcoming and the product, of course, is excellent. We had a great experience and would recommend it to others!

We had a great tasting hosted by Bill! He was knowledgeable and friendly. There were five samples on the tasting. Enjoyed learning about the Ocean bourbon.
