This bug zoo had a very nice variety of insects, arachnids and more. It is not a very large space so it worked well that there were just 4 of us. We were guided throughout the one story bldg, given lots of information, had our questions answered and never felt rushed. You have to get reservations. Tours start on the hour and last 40 minutes. The last 20 minutes of each hour are for cleaning. Parking is free and you walk through some lovely garden space to get there.

The insect zoo is really interesting. It's not huge, but bugs aren't huge, so they fit in a lot in a small space. They have a wide variety of insects, spiders, scorpions, and other creepy-crawlies. I am not a huge fan of such things, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The only part I didn't like was the kitchen exhibit, where you open cabinet drawers to see live creatures living in them. They are enclosed, but still. I opened one with a spider and it came running towards me; I was so shocked I dropped my phone and jumped about two feet back. Also in that exhibit is a sink which is not enclosed and is used to display cockroaches. I leaned against the counter around the sink and realized I was directly above a bunch of cockroaches. Also a shock. Despite that one exhibit giving me the heebie-jeebies, it was very interesting overall. My favorite part was how they have blacklight flashlights next to the scorpions so you can see how they glow under UV. It was SO COOL!!! They really glow! I had read about the phenomenon, seen it on tv, but nothing compared to seeing it in person. Heck, I would pay $3 just to see a glowing scorpion, let alone the rest of the zoo. I definitely recommend! It's a must-see at Kansas State, in my opinion

The KSU Insect Zoo is for those people who have some level of interest in insects. They may love them or hate them or just have some level of fascination. It is a relatively small museum; however, insects are, themselves, small; therefore, it doesn't take a lot of room to display them. The zoo costs ($3 per person) which tends to make people stop and think if it is worth the entry fee. In my opinion, it is well worth it, especially if you have children with you. They (and you) will enjoy exhibits of the many different types of insects, from giant cockroaches, to butterflies, to large spiders. They even have a fascinating active bee hive connected to the outside. You can watch the bees coming and going and see the inside of the hive, amazing. Visitors can even buy a live tarantula (small) if you are so inclined. Anyway, I can definitely recommend the Insect Zoo. For out-of-town visitors, it might be a little tricky to find so look for the KSU Gardens in the north west corner of the campus; the zoo is located in the gardens. Actually that makes the zoo even more attractive because you can enjoy the beautiful garden area (free) before or after visiting the zoo. Finally free parking for the zoo is in the north area of the gardens and it is a short, flat stroll to the zoo.

Interesting place to spend some time. Good for bringing the kids. Low cost, has a lot of bugs, and a beehive you can see in action.

We've been traveling to Manhattan for years for athletic, alumni and other events, but had never stopped at the K-State Insect Zoo until this fall. We had an hour and a half one afternoon and decided to check it out. My wife and I were both impressed with the quantity and quality of exhibits. There is a great display of mounted butterflys that was donated by a collector and all manner of live cockroaches, spiders, walking stick, leaf insects and others too numerous to mention. There is information on insects that affect Kansas agriculture as well as those that we see in urban settings. It is in a small space, but well organized and run by staff and students who are eager to share information about the exhibits. If you call ahead, $5 will get you a personal tour with a student or instructor who will give you the "behind the scenes" perspective. The entrance fee is $2 and is the best value for $2 that I've experienced in a long time. Next time you are in Manhattan, stop by and get your insect fix! You won't be disappointed.

We went as a family on the weekend. It's very cheap. They have quite a few hands on things for the kids to play with. The one that grossed me out the most was the kitchen and the bugs that you can find in your kitchen. The bee section was really cool as well. They have a wide variety of creatures, dead and alive, to look at. My daughter keeps asking to go back. At the end they have souvenirs to purchase at souvenir prices! I'm still hoping one day that my daughter tries one of the bug candies! We will be going back this summer!

This exhibit is small but very informative. Just about any type of insect you can think about is here - some dead, some alive - including spiders, bees, and cockroaches. You can even touch some of the insects! There is a small admission fee of $3 but it was worth it. On the way to the insect building you pass through some beautiful flower gardens with a fountain as it's centerpiece.
