Do niot miss!

The scope of the wetlands was astounding to us. We were so glad to see that much land being set aside for nature.

One of the hotel staff recommended i check out Cheyenne Bottoms. Being from Louisiana, i was surprised to find a wet land in the middle of Kansas! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I learned a ton from them. They really went above and beyond!

Exceeded all expectations. Nicely done around a natural body of water. If one stops the car, the birds offer a cacophony of sound. Ducks diving for food, sea gulls gliding, herons near the shore looking for food. The Best thing is the welcome center. VERY nicely appointed, modern, clean. Excellent displays, and even live animals for representation. Different snakes that... More

Depending on the time of year, this wetlands can be fairly quiet or seriously full and noisy. In July it is fairly quiet, but still beautiful and a great place to find birds of all kinds. The bugs were seriously awful when exiting the car, however. Take bug spray! You can do the entire wetlands by car or you can... More

Very nice visitor center. Well organized displays with a friendly ranger and pretty wild flowers in front. Easy to walk nature trail. The drive through the preserve is easy and we enjoyed the water, grasses and birds.

My sister and I were sightseeing in the area and decided to finally do it. We went to the nature center first for information and then we drove to the place where they have wooden bleachers and you can see all kinds of birds landing and leaving the great large water refuge. We didn't want to leave the area because... More

We drove through here on our way home from vacation because my husband used to work for a company that was responsible for the lift stations as this nature preserve. It was so serene to just drive through here and see all the birds on the water. I could have spend hours here just enjoying nature.

There always seems to be birds here. If you want to see mass quantities of birds, this place can be amazing. It also holds some species not generally seen elsewhere in KS, or maybe anywhere. for example we have seen as many as 17 Whooping Cranes here in one day. Flocks of blackbirds in the millions may sometimes be seen... More

Enjoyed our day at the new center. After the seminar we drive the wetlands reserve and saw a variety of shore birds, ducks, coots, pelicans, white egrets and blue herons.

After missing the massive spring migration by a couple of weeks, we didn’t know what to expect from this wetland area. But we needn’t have worried: this was among the best birding trips we have ever taken. We drove around a bit in the afternoon, climbed an observation tower, and saw few birds on the chilly and rainy Saturday we... More
